I doubt Fischer was scared of Kasparov considering Kasparov didn't start to dominate until long after Fischer went missing.

I am scared of 9 year old kids in my club, was so scared today that my nerves almost popped out, and I played every move with great care and focus.

Maybe its helpful to be  scared to play the strongest possible game?

I guess the adult GM´s often gets scared facing the upcoming superplayers. If I were a 2700+ super-GM I would have been very nervous facing Sam Sevian. If I were Fischer back then I would have been terrified of the young Kasparov.

Kasparov is still awesome. Thx for the imput I have not read any of hos books. Got to give him credit 20 years world title holder in other division. Yes hes a dynasty. An I did learn one thing from him when he was young. Practicing on a computer will improve your tactical game and also speed! Because of that I was able to go to 7 11 for a hot dog talk to my girl on the phone. During a 40. 90 game. Then return blitz the guy into mate in 12 moves under 2 minutes have 10 minutes left on the clock to spare. That was fun except when he threw the board up in the air. Tournament director wasnt happy either when I told the guy this wasnt a frizzbe contest. Lol I owe it all to speed traing on a radio shack chess computer and gary

Why isnt Nakamura the best of all time? His combinations are among the most beautiful ever. Is it because he did meet Carlsen?

Why is Fisher the best of all time? Because he didnt meet Carlsen?

(Kasparov was fantastic too)

I wouldnt call any player awesome who couldnt win a single game in a 16 game match .

Are you talking about someone specific?

Yes,  Kasparov's match with Kramnik in 2000 .

oh, i see, hmmmmm....

would you consider Kasparov to be awesome before that match?

I don't think Fisher was scared of Karpov, as he almost missed his match with Spassky due to all his pre-match demands (which Fide gave in to him), and forfeited the first game with Spassky later on.

He was just highly eccentric. Not crazy, but eccentric.

Maybe borderline crazy, but all the people who met him, including Seirawan, all said he was very normal. If he was crazy, maybe it was a sign of his genius?

Geniuses throughout history tend to be weird.

i was thinking... maybe Fischer never really matured to be a grown-up man... sometimes i consider him like a big boy. maybe it's no coincidence that people still call him "Bobby"

That means you don't consider Fischer awesome. He couldn't even manage a single draw in his 1975 match.

Kasparov and Lasker were maybe the two most awesome players ever. It was by playing decade after decade after becoming World Champions they eventually had a bad result, but such things happen to all players except those that retire prematurely.

"If you are actually from Nauru, shouldn't you be sweeping the ocean floor for manganese nodules or something?"

I'm not supposed to write about this, but the last 24 years I have been employed by Communist Russians together with 50 other researchers. Out aim has been to prove that Karpov once had a live rating higher than Fischer's highest. The new assignment for our team of spin doctors is to manipulate all chess message boards with posts suggesting that Fischer's demands weren't simply fairer and better than all other systems.

This doesnt even deserve a response as Fischer didnt play after 72 until 92 .

Karpov must suck as well?

Thats odd , I dont recall Petrosian or Spassky ever playing a match after becoming GM ( let alone WC ) in which they didnt manage a single win . Please enlighten me !  Undecided  Neither of them retired early either .

I said that all players have a bad result if they just keep playing long enough. Lasker was more than 50 years old when he scored a winless result in a title match, Kasparov scored a bad result in his eighth title match. That you because of this do not consider them to ever have been awesome chess players is revealing enough.

Petrosian was winless in a Candidates match against Korchnoi in 1980, by the way.
