"he was very fortunate to win the candidates"
According to you he has been very fortunate every time he has won something, so soon his luck just has got to stop and he gets the result he actually deserves, right?

To lose 2 games with the white pieces in a tournament and still sneak through is a tad fortunate I would say.

You also said he was lucky to win in Shamkir since he lost two games there, and his five wins were also there nothing that really entered the equation.

Two of Carlsen's wins in his candidates were against the old man Gelfand and another was against Radjabov , who was so badly out of form that he lost over 30 rating points in that tournament ; so overall not that impressive..I have given my reasons for declaring that Carlsen's Shamkir performance was not that strong in another thread and I see no reason to add to what has already been said.
It could all be over for Magnus in November this year and who can say whether or not he will ever be able to win another candidates tournament..after all he was very fortunate to win the candidates that he did scrape through in .
Sorry, I just can't see that. Where you see luck, others including myself, sees talent. I bet he will reign supreme for at least a decade.
Anton Smirnov in Australia is 12 & he's 2318.
He's peaked 2400 now, came 4th in the 5th board in the olympiad, he's IM now and insanely good!
