They are probably just sending the challenges manually based off your rating.
Why do titled players keep challenging me to bullet games? 😝

I doubt that. My rating is only about 2200-2300, and there are usually a lot of (about thirty or so) players online with that rating. I initially thought that was the case, but it doesn't seem to make sense that people would specifically choose to challenge me out of a sizeable, if relatively small, pool of similarly-rated players.

I get challenged occasionally, especially when my rating is above 2200. Your rating isn't that low, I've played and beaten lots of lower-rated titled players.

Yep, I've noticed that.
when rated 2300, I often get challenges from titled players.
when rated 2200, I get a few
when rated 2100, none at all.
Clearly a lot of titled players set their minimum opponent rating around 2200.
I believe my hypothesis that open challenges from titled players appear as personal challenges is most likely- it increases the chance of getting a match at the highest levels. It's a clever idea, but I understand why the staff wouldn't publicize it.
and, my rating is quite low if one compares to grandmasters. Especially Hikaru.
p.s. congrats on your wins! You're not the only one who's beaten a lot of titled players 😜

Are you bragging that you are being asked or what?
Why ask the great unwashed? Ask them.
If I knew that players were challenging me, I would ask them. But I don't think that's the case. I think that the system is just set up so it looks like they're challenging me when they're actually not... Which is why I posted the question to the general forum, to see if anyone could shine a light on this phenomenon.
Which apparently worked.

Titled players have no special ability to send out mass challenges. I couldn't explain why you only seem to get challenges from titled players, but I know I constantly sort the list of players by bullet and challenge everyone until I get a game. It's faster than putting out a seek.
Huh. That's... surprising, but makes sense.
I play on an app, so haven't got the ability to list the top players online and challenge them all like that. But I suppose with a mouse you can send out tens of challenges like this relatively quickly.
I guess the question in the title is answered, then. Still don't know why I only get challenges from titled players, but I think only about six different people have challenged me directly. While they were all titled, this small sample size leads me to think it was maybe just a coincidence that they were all titled.
Thanks for the feedback!
You know when you're in live chess, and an alert pops up that someone's challenging you to a game?
Well, those keep popping up quite a lot for me, but only from titled players. "FM JJ_YC is challenging you to a game of 1|0" ... "NM samuraichessman is challenging you to a game of 1|0 unrated" ... "NM Gabrinsky is challenging you to a game of 1|0" ... "IM manumimi is challenging you to a game of 1|0" ...
You get the idea. It always seems to be 1|0, funnily enough. Maybe that's because titled players only play bullet. And they appear to be personal challenges to just me, not general challenges to everyone... I tend to get a few alerts like this on most days.
I doubt loads of players have a desperate desire to play me personally, and if that was the case why would only the titled challenge me anyway? (though it's nice to believe loads of players actually go to the effort to challenge you personally :P)
So I can only assume that one of the following is the case:
either titled players have an option to send mass personal challenges simultaneously to all players in a certain rating range
Or, all challenges from titled players appear as personal challenges, so when, e.g., a titled player sends out a seek for a 1|0 game for players rated over 2200, it appears as a personal challenge sent to everyone online with a bullet rating over 2200.
This actually makes a lot of sense. Opponents are more sparse at the highest levels, so it'd make sense to highlight challenges like this to increase one's chances of getting a game. Might mean your chances of getting a game are higher if you have big red letters in front of your name than if you don't, but c'est la vie.
I find this particular mechanism quite amusing and neat. Has anyone else noticed this? 😄
