I mean, Magnus did not even try to defend his world title, putting an asterisk on Liren's and Gukesh's world chess championships. This is similar to the two championships that Olajuwon won when Jordan was playing baseball. The best was not playing in the world championship. Unfortunately, that's how it goes. No hate to Gukseh though. He just is not Magnus.
This makes absolutely zero sense. Sure, Gukesh didn't defeaat Magnus. He also didn't defeat Anand, Kramnik, Kasparov, Karpov, Fischer, Spassky, Petrosian, Tal, Smyslov, Botvinnik, Euwe, Alekhine, Capablanca, Lasker and Steinitz. And Morphy. And Michael Jordan. What a patzer.
That "asterisk" is only in your head. Best to wake up and realize than Magnus's time is gone.
