TDLR : i suggest 3 "new" rules for bughouse, i hope it can improve the mode.
I'm a regular bughouse player (and also "classic" chess player) around ELO 1500 and I think this mode could be improved.
Why does this mode needs improvements ?
Because i think that the aggressive strategy is the only one working (give pawn or sacrifice early (max 5 turns) to prevent castling, and then only attack by placing knight or pawn with chess ...). If you are a regular bughouse player you know what i mean.
So it makes all the game looking the same, and it removes a lot of fun.
What to do ?
I suggest 3 rules :
- cannot place pawn on the 6th or 7th row (because it's TOO powerful)
- cannot place material directly chess mate
- cannot place material that your partner gave you during your current reflexion (hard to explain in english for me sorry) : when you have to play (when your clock is running) you don't receive "new" material from your partner (or there are locked), you will have them after your current move. It prevents player sacrificing everything (without brain) and waiting for a queen (or something else) to place chess mate. So it will force players to think more about the position (and i believe that's a good thing).
I believe these are "good" rules because I always played bughouse with this rules when I was a child with this one (in my chess club or during chess tournament).
