https://clips.twitch.tv/AgreeableBreakablePorcupineKappaClaus - One grandmaster might get a kick out of it: Penguingm1
Can you imagine the epic battles that would take place between Grandmaster Tang and grandmasters such as Nakamura and Carlson?
Hell, if grandmasters could get a kick out of it, why wouldn't you? Perhaps bullet is too daunting for you. Relax, there's a computer by your side!
Now, how exactly does this variant work? What are the rules? Well the first rule of Bullet Engine is that it's played at 1 | 1 and below because the shorter the time control, the less influence the engine has over the game. The second rule of Bullet Engine is that it's played with, you guessed it, an engine. But how does the engine get selected, and how is it run?
The engine selection process should be simple and fair. Upon entering a game, each player chooses an engine from a list. We let White pick an engine first, then Black chooses (they may both pick the same engine). This lets Black counter White with an engine pick. There should be at least 2 engines to choose from, with the classic Fish v Dragon rivalry plus whatever else can make it. But to ensure fairness in play, the engine hardware (RAM, processing power) should be equal throughout the match.
Finally, the time controls:
I recommend 1 | 1 and 1 | 0 as the only two time controls. With just 2 options, this helps keep the player pool compact, while allowing for diversity. Many players prefer 0 increment, while many prefer some kind of increment. Now, these two time controls create extremely different playing environments. 1 | 1 is very laid-back and strategic, where you can let the computer solve the tactics while you devise a plan. 1 | 0 is fast-paced and hectic, where the clock becomes a time-bank for you and the computer! Lastly, it's important that the main clock is simply 1 minute for both time controls because A. The two time controls are already extremely diverse, and B. It's easier for new players to choose between having an increment vs no increment.
So please, if you would like to see this happen, leave a comment down below and I'll help make it happen.
