Automate was by far my favorite Chess.com feature. I would be willing to pay for a top tier Chess.com account if Automate is brought back again to the Variant games.

chess.com, what have you done?

Can't they bring back Automate?
We all agree it was real great
The king of variants shining bright
For which we have an appetite
With newbies using lots of knight
'Cause Mr Rosen thought it right
And three hundred move long endgame
For which the engine was to blame
Fun ran riot in the chat
With puns and jokes right off the bat
Wild matchings of Elo
1400s 'gainst a pro
There was nought like it at all
It's absence does my heart appaul
Oh Chess.com what have you done?
You've killed such joy and smote such fun
But bring it back
I must beseech
To fascinate, inspire and teach
And radiate our sadder hour
With games to wipe away our glower.
@longknoll , whoever you are, you are a genius.

I came here cause I was wondering why it went does anyone know it seems like they still have the infrastructure but disabled it from the menu I don't see why they should take it down unless it wastes a tonne of server CPU cycles or something and it is becoming expensive to run but I don't see how that would affect cost.

i dont think it hurts anyone to keep the variant there unless they really hate seeing the low results and decide to shut it down just for the sake of having one less variant.. they dont think the more the merrier
From reading heth_barmon29 long post about strategies used in the game, there must be dozens and dozens of active Automate players. I never had any problem in waiting for an opponent 24/7, dozens of people were always there to challenge around the clock. There were clearly technical problems with some change they had made to its code because it suddenly started crashing. Moreover, I don't believe Chess.com's claim that it was taken down to its "unpopularity". The fact of the matter is, preceding its removal from the Variants menu Automate had a series of crashes that typically took 12 ~ 36 hours, after writing to the support staff several times, before it was brought back live. Whatever the reasons are, the players on this site aren't a bunch of morons, we deserve the truth no matter what it might be, and the right to challenge their decision as we are their customers. Whoever came up with the game has hit gold, and I hope that Chess.com comes to that realization sooner than later, besides the large player base that is in strong support of resurrecting the Automate game. Please bring it back— I'm willing to pay for a Chess.com top tier membership for the privilege of being able to continue to play Automate and lose or a draw in every game against heth_barmon29.

i have added a chess support member on here, u mind i forward this to them? thankyou so much charles, couldnt have been more well said

As you say I'm surprised they say it's unpopular. I was looking at Google data and 'Automate Chess' is searched as much as 'Fog of War Chess' and 'Horde Chess', as well as about twice as much as 'King of the Hill Chess' and half as much as 'Atomic Chess' worldwide. I've also pointed this out though I suppose the data is a bit flimsy.

It is so sad that chess.com has removed automate. Visiting their website no-longer has the same fun feeling. It would be great if they bought it back but in the meantime, does anyone else know of a different chess website that does offer automate or other variants that are similar?

if we could ever find a programmer that can recreate this live mode with stockfish depth and add the posibilites to the game such as putting pieces on the fourth rank, random points each game to add more possibilites that would be great. stockfish is free anyways and any chess GUI like arena chess GUI could be able to host this kind of mode easily. i payed an excel expert on fiverr at least 30dollars to fix my theortical matchups of all setups, i could start a fundraiser for the right professional that can make this happen, altho i never did anything remotely close to this before id want to know how likely this can get lol

im looking at copyright issues lol, i might be onto something im finding out lot more chess variatns on other sights hold onnnnnn

on lichess they said they are not adding new variants for a long time, searching automate on google only gives a handful of results mostly only related to chess.com forums asking for setups, so i feel its a very unpopular variant therefore shouldnt have any copy right , cuz rules can be made up and stockfish is public

on lichess cuz stockfish doesnt make mistake u can really tell who won at early moves cuz it doesnt throw away an already theoretically won postiion. i think what made it fun on chess.com is we never know how the bot will mess up or not, and its not that solved precicely because the bot can mess up XD
