Chess on an Infinite Plane (Marks1420 - captaintugwash)

You had to play (3,3) there to stop me winning pawn or rook. You left your rook unprotected, you always need to keep an eye on unprotected pieces, especially when there are active enemy hawks.

Not a problem, it's only a friendly anyway.
Did you guys agree beforehand that this game is unrated? I believe Martin still tracks Infinite Plane ELO scores (although there's not as many games so the data is lesser known).
(If unrated I'll mark it in the lead).

I'm not sure but I'm happy for it to be unrated. Marks will probably be happy with that too, seeing as he's about to lose a rook.

I assume the default is rated, I just wanted to give you the opportunity to take it unrated. It really doesn't bother me either way.

Rooks are good defensive pieces. That's why I have one on the 9th rank.
Why are you ignoring your guard? You basically have 12 hours or so to make a different move. I like winning and all, but don't make it easy for me.

I'm leaving this game as rated based on strict interpretation of the rules. (unless agreed beforehand, games are rated by default. Also I don't see either side pleading for this to be unrated).
Also I hope to play the winner of this game - rated, because it makes the tension worse.😅

I wonder if rooks are nerfed in this. They seem kind of clumsy.
lol - a piece that travels X-Y directions, on an X-Y grid is clumsy.😂

That's a better move. I mean since this is your first game I'm happy to give you some pointers. Your bishop is unprotected and you have now left your hawk unprotected. Neither are a problem for you right now, but being aware of which pieces are unprotected is important. I identified your rook as vulnerable and made moves to exploit that weakness, so I'm certainly looking for ways to attack your unprotected pieces.

Thanks for being lenient. I forgot to say vacation here. Exams are a pain.
