Not really a surprise. If I give one side an extra Queen, he also will win most of the time.
And this is approximately the difference in strength between the Chimera army and fide. The indiviual piece values should be about 11, 7, 3 and 4 compared to fide's 9, 5, 3 and 3. That makes a +8 advantage.

I created a chess variant with Zillions of Games called Chimera Chess as a balanced opposing army to the regular Mad Queen (or orthodox) Chess. Instead of the Bishop, Knight, Rook, and Queen pieces, it has the Sage (moves like the King), Chimera (leaps two squares in all directions), Flying Jester ( moves one square horizontally and captures any number of squares horizontally), and Chimera Rider (combines the moves of Sage and Chimera) respectively. The rest of the rules and pieces are the same as the Mad Queen Chess.
