Doubled Pawns: A New Variant

I was just thinking about a variant that looks like this:

Because in a real medieval battle there would be a lot more foot soldiers. So I think this variant would be more like an actual war in the way that there are a lot of pawns. I ran it on the Analysis Board and it came up even. Tell me what you think!

It's more drawish than regular chess, since it requires minimum two moves to develop a piece.

There are way more possibilities for a locked pawn chain, and therefore, again, more drawish tendencies.

Would pawns be able to jump two spaces on their first move? How would en passant work?
