I vote 2.c4

It's scary in Event Chess, since things can change on a thin dime.  Notice that Martin brought his Knight out immediately… he knows how his toast is buttered.  Two pawns forward for us is scary.

Well...we should let Ry decide.

2.Nc3 is objectively bad. If someone played that against me, I'd be thinking to myself "Yes, my opponent is a noob". We should be trying to win.

I vote for 2. Nf3

landontu

I don't play d4 openings so idk what to do but Nf3 seems more flexible so I vote Nf3

USAuPzlBxBob

ry, I'll change my vote to Nf3 to follow your lead since you're more used to the d4, and you gave a reason:  "Isn't committal.

Vote Nf3.  (I still like getting a minor piece off the back rank, so… good!)

I vote for 3.c4 on every move other than 2... d5

landontu

i think we should begin to think about starting an event

Nf3 has won the vote.

Chess_Pro2

I vote for 3. g3; preparing to fianchetto our light-squared bishop.

In normal chess I'd play 3. c4 here, and that move also looks completely fine to me, but I prefer to develop our bishop to g2 first, in case we get an event that improves the bishops.

landontu

why don't we just start an event and then see

dax00

I vote for c4. Completely against starting an event this early.

I vote for g3.

Let's keep the event in our "back-pocket."  Let Martin play the Event first, but we need to be ahead on the board, playing better chess than Martin, so that he feels he needs an Event.

He'll show a sign of weakness if he plays the Event first, on a board going sour on him.

I've never seen him squirm.  Would LOVED to see us get an advantage on him, in normal chess.

He's a really solid player! (Ry… you're pretty good, too, btw!)

I vote 3.g3 too.

Let's bring it to the fore… haven't even studied the position … but "you" experts feel good about g3, imho.

Vote g3.
