New variant: I need your help!

Thanks for the suggestion.

I think I'll stick to "inventory", though.

Ok
BattleChessGN18

The board is almost ready. Give me two or three more days, and it will be. =)

Version 2b of Chengfulohng Kei is ready!

Please consult this google-doc guide:

I want to thank Dax00 profusely once again for his/her contributions to making Version 2! His/her credits include -

- Helping make the Terracotta piece, as power of movement and capture were based heavily on his/her suggestion on how the Mammoth-Mastodon should move, which slide as much as 3 squares to move, leaps 2 or 4 diagonal squares to capture. (Note - V2 Mammoth-Mastodon does not move like this^^.)

- Helping develop the rules of the Dragon; particularly Dragon-strength to be determined by which rank its Egg was Hatched

- Helping create the Imperial Borders, as final Borders of V2 resembles much of what he/she suggested, which is the c-k files of the back five ranks. (Note - V2 Imperial Borders are not exactly this.)

Dax00, I hope I get the pleasure to have you in another testrun again!

Sample game position ^-^

BattleChessGN18

HandsomeDesert, would you like to testrun as White or Black? =)

HandsomeDesert
I think black
BattleChessGN18

Wonderful.

So, I'm guessing you read the instructional guide to V1, just to get a head start. If you did, that's great.

The following rules have been updated for V2:

- Terracotta movement/capture

- The "Palace Rank-line" has been renamed "Imperial Borders" and takes on a different region

- The rules of Dragon game-play

-The Mammoth-Mastodon

If you haven't already, you might want to thumb through the guide for V2 to make sure that any changes from the rules that you may have known are understood. =)

I'll start the game sometime tonight.

HandsomeDesert
Ok
HandsomeDesert
Sorry I need sleep,
Can we start tomorrow?
BattleChessGN18

Haha, HandsomeDesert, you don't need my permission to do anything. I was simply stating when I was going to start posting diagrams and get our testgame going. =)

Of course, I am running a little late myself. There were some technical difficulties with the 3D render, so that took about an hour or so to fix. (Would have been faster if I had more sleep last night!!)

Anyways, I just fixed it now and should be posting diagrams soon.

And, thank you, MusketeerChess2017.

BattleChessGN18

Did you mean j10-9? (鎚j5-j6 is moving my Battering Ram.)

haha

dax00

Definitely not the move I played. I was black last game.

BattleChessGN18

Dax00, did you also want to help testrun V2? If so, I can create a new testrun thread for just you and me, to run concurrent with this thread.

dax00

I can't handle any extra games, sorry. Just a couple points...

  • You really make it to easy for a player to hatch dragons. 2 turns? My suggestion of 4 turns was already generous enough. There needs to be a feasible chance that eggs get captured in time, no matter where they are placed, especially if one is to hatch a very powerful dragon.
  • With the new alteration to the egg collection area, it seems a better idea to only give eggs every time a player leaves the area, rather then enters it. I had this idea earlier but forgot to mention it. This way, it makes it harder to get eggs. And it would then be reasonable to revert back to the flat border 3 ranks back, if you wanted. But the current border is fine.
BattleChessGN18

I understand, Dax00. You do what you can, I'm sure.

Regarding point 1 - I made it so that it is 4 turns: Three turns before the Egg becomes a Dragon, and 1 more turn before the Dragon actually gets to move at all. (The Dragon can't move the turn it becomes a Dragon, making it susceptible to capture for 1 more turn.)

Bear in mind that no other piece by the Egg player can move during those turns a  Egg is placed and hatched. That, in theory, would lower the Egg player's advantage at least somewhat.

And then, If we're risking danger of an Egg by placing it on the forward 2 ranks of a Kingdom in order to get a three-strong and four-strong Dragon (the Dragons that really count!), I think three turns before hatching, so that it can move on the following turn, is difficult enough for a player.

Regarding point 2 - I think it would take mild gulls to step onto Imperial borders even with it on the opponent's 2nd forward rank, considering the fortification of the pawns by the pieces backing them.

We don't want to make it too difficult to get an Egg, let alone to enjoy using the Dragon in the game.

But, the bottom line driven home is, I won't know with better certainty until I see it in a testrun.
