Hi all, last year I created a chess variant where each non-pawn piece is a hero (from another popular game Dota 2) having a unique ability that can only be used once throughout the game. You can checkout the following videos of the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJ1OOo6lr5w and a sample game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvvrCwzMUaE&t=17s to get a high level idea of the game.
Examples of heroes and their abilities include:
1. Lich: Sacrifice one of his team's pawns. Optionally, also move to the pawn's square
2. Nature's Prophet: Teleport to anywhere on the board.
3. Axe: Force the enemy to capture a piece.
4. Sniper: Capture a piece without moving.
You can checkout the complete list of heroes here: https://www.ohmschess.com/heroes
The variant is hosted as a mod within Dota 2, so if you would like to try it, you can follow the instructions here: https://www.ohmschess.com/installation
Overall, I hope that this small addition of single use abilities adds a lot more strategic possibilities, reduces reliance on memorization and opening preparation (like Chess 960) and overall makes the game even more exciting.
What do you guys think of this? I would love to get any feedback from the community.
Thanks!
