Small chu shogi - KaijiAUT vs dax00

93☗4八金 was inaccurate, and 95☗3六歩 was much more inaccurate. That 歩仲 shape with my lion 2 spaces away is a shape where both players should more or less ignore it. If pawn takes, then my lion's position is too good. If I take, then that's a wasted area of opportunity. If I retreat, that's the worst of all, since it blows a tempo as well. Even if my piece were a silver or leopard, I still think both sides should ignore it.

What I've noticed is that you play most inaccurately when: multiple pieces can recapture, the position is pretty quiet, or when you're trying to make positional decisions.

Thank you for your advice. I will try to focus more on choosing the correct piece by multiple capture, as I see that I do such mistakes often.

The other cases are quite difficult... I am not sure how to get a better grip to these.

With more expereince, you should be able to learn what makes positional sense. Playing me should help. I can point out what lacks. I feel like I have an excellent idea how all the individual aspects of a position meld together. Because of this, I can order different positional tasks by priority and play accordingly. It's perfectly understandable if this seems impossible for you. My ability to read a chess position is at least 100 times worse than that for a chu shogi position. But we can strive for marginal improvement nonetheless.

I think you meant 4九象. Let me know if otherwise.

I don't know how much you've appreciated my preparation these last 20 moves

KaijiAUT

Yes you are right. I am really not sure what to play from here

tough decision?

KaijiAUT

Well I dislike the position so much I resign here. Thank you for the game.

The left flank of the king is so open and it is easy to force the lion in now. Besides that I don't have a real idea what to do, while i barely defend. Also about the queen vs lion I think the lion has a too big advantage in this small variant of chu shogi. Yeah so overally speaking I think it is okay to resign already here

Yes, you overcommitted to the defense on your right side. It was always going to be very difficult to hold after teasing free king for lion. I played to stretch out your forces, as is my style, and you overextended a little more each time until it couldn't hold. One must find middle ground between defending any particular area too little and too much.

That's the main difficulty playing against my style of chu shogi. It's not so dangerous what is on the board. Rather, what is dangerous is how hard I press you to decide to any degree of commitment, how efficiently my forces rearrange their focus, and how disciplined one must be to not destroy one's own position while maintaining a balanced foothold. I do my best to make it difficult to tell what my goals actually are. Whereas others are more likely to take a direct approach to attack, my unconventional indirect approach is more easily likened to being slowly poisoned. It's pure positional chu shogi that will drive a tactical mind mad - minimal calculation required.
