Trexler's right, the above's illegal. 3 knights, bishops, or rooks would be equally illegal. Even 2 queens is illegal.

Just 6 points of material from the enemy can be extremely hard to defeat...

This is true, and I could come up with some particularly difficult to defeat events (easy example is dropping a queen on the board that just runs around avoiding being taken). However, before sending an event, I will make sure that it is not going to be unfair. Generally this means running through the event in my head and finding weaknesses that can be exploited.

condude2

Although, also remember that your goal is to outlast everyone else, meaning that a particularly nasty event disadvantages everyone equally.

Trexler3241

Is there anyone known that can beat just 6 points of material? I don’t think so frustrated.png

condude2

Oh, like that! It's fairly easy. I see two real options. First would be to push the a and b pawns, supported by the queen, use zugzwang to separate them, fork them, then corner the remaining one. The alternative would be to trade a knight for them, and bite the bullet on losing 1 point of material.

Remember, after every event, you get 2 points of material back, so you can afford to lose a couple pawns to take out an event (although obviously more efficient solutions will be better in the long run!). The problems begin once you start losing pieces, where you have to use an inordinate amount of points to get them back.

Trexler3241

That takes 8 moves. The next pieces spawn right after you capture the bishops, leaving you with a king that can be checked multiple times. That’s only if the bishops wouldn’t capture the pawns... so the points cannot be used until enemy captures pawns.

Bishops defending each other are harder than bishops not defending each other.

condude2

It would take a while, and that's why you're not going to see 2 bishops like that. You'll see other things, but I'll make it reasonably doable. Remember, I'm not sticking with the traditional pieces for the enemies, so I could devise a piece that shreds everything. I won't, so don't worry about potential impossible combinations.

So what can I do now? Do I get an advantage because I used the least amount of material in my setup?

Now we're waiting for the other two to start up. Once it gets going it'll be a lot faster. And no, it's up to you how to set it up, but there's no advantage to choosing less material.

Actually I am on mobile so no boards for me...

Is this going to be true the whole time?

You have to be on the website to post board, so probably not

I'll actually just run this in two waves - one tonight, and one two days from now. It doesn't make sense to make everyone wait two extra days for one person.

Round by round instructions will appear in italics.

The first five turns will be strictly beneficial to players. There will be no enemies yet.

Trexler3241

Can we make our 5 moves yet?

Trexler3241

Soon. There will be a modification to the board that may change how you want to play the opening.

What is the modification?

@ All boards except Chessfreak2020

The game has begun! To begin, please add a minor treasure chest (represented by a white pawn) to c8. Capturing the treasure chest will endow a small benefit to the player (Value is approximately 0.5 pawns).

Any time there are no enemies on the board, you may make as many moves in a row as you want, until the next event triggers.

The first event will be focused on securing the other side of the board for the enemies. Don't overextend your pawns in the opening five moves, but developing pieces will be relatively safe.
