Variant ideas

I posted this a few days ago under the username DrunkPubPlayer but for some reason my thread was removed. I have no idea why but I decided that if I couldn't post a thread I may as well close my account. But I decided to try again, so I have a new account.

I had an idea while playing with the interesting "immobilizer" piece. It's sometimes called a "gorgon" piece, and in mythology Perseus slew Medusa by using a mirrored shield. So it made me think that a chess piece could be immune to the immobilizer. Which in turn made me think of other Greek myths. What about an "Orpheus" type piece, which cannot be captured, yet cannot capture either. Useful as a blocker or an obstructing piece within the enemy camp. And the sirens, which lured sailors to them. There are some "magnetic" piece variations already out there, and I thought the principal of an "attracting/ magnetic" piece could be used to emulate the siren's lure

I envisioned a variation loosely based on the Greek myths, with White being the "heroes" or mortals and Black being the Gods, or more sinister creatures.

Black

King- Hades, moves like regular king
Queen- Medusa, moves like a king but paralyzes any enemy piece within a queen's move of it. The "immobilizer" piece that has cropped up sometimes in variants.
bishops- sirens, move/ capture 1 square diagonally, but also "pull" any enemy piece on it's diagonal one square towards it
knights- furies, have the power of knight and pawn (this is the "dragon" piece of older fairy chess)

White

King- some Greek mythology "good guy" king, moves the same as regular king
Queen- represents some powerful hero, Hercules would be an obvious choice. Moves like Western chess queen.
bishops- pegasi, winged horses, move with a combination of bishop and knight (I know this is the "archbishop" of past variants)
knights -one is Perseus, moves like king but is immune to the Gorgons gaze. The other is Orpheus, moves like a king but cannot capture or be captured. These are the two pieces which I feel might give the game a distinctive twist.

pawns and rooks are standard as in chess. Castling is permitted. M Winthers did have the intriguing "harpy" pawn but that would seem to give the owner a sizable advantage, so I'm not sure if it could unbalance the game too much. White is more mobile and straightforward, Black is more defensive and sneaky.

So there is my first attempt to visualize it. I know that "unbalanced army" type variants are not to everyone's tastes though as it makes it more  a board game based on chess rather than a chess variant proper.I think that sticking to an 8x8 board should make it more accessible to those who want to play it on a physical board

Variant idea 2- "Fortress" and "sapper" pawns. A player may at the cost of a move make one of his pawns immobile but invulnerable to capture. The other player may also at the cost of a move make one of his pawns a "sapper" pawn, being the only piece able to capture the fortress pawn.

Variant Idea 3- a player may remove 3 pawns from his board to be able to obtain a "pocket" knight or bishop (randomly determined) to be able to be dropped on the board next turn. A tempting gamble as you are not sure what you'll get. The idea of an extra piece is enticing, but you waste a move doing it and the pawns may have done some valuable defensive work.

So those are my ideas on variants. They were just that, ideas. Suggestions for improvement, ridicule etc are all welcome!

I checked the account @DrunkPubPlayer and it does not exist, it would still be shown even after it has been closed.

That's fine, now if anyone wants to discuss new chess variants let's do it.

No thanks.

Why do you need so much text for describing your variant? It should be this piece is called this and moves that period.

If someone has a new chess idea.  how does one go about getting it programed for chess.com ?
