AWESOME
variant or something idk

that's hot except for the re-roll part. If you die you die
grandma
you're mother

Hmmm. So, in other words, as the game progresses, less and less squares remain available, making it gradually harder to maintain your pieces and their position; and to perform tactics and strategies...
I like it. It's definitely interesting. Also, it definitely beats my Chaos Chess variant.
What is your new variant called?

Bu the problem is do we have 8 sided dices ?
octohedra: Am I A JOKE TO YOU?????

This is a website I've been following for years. Even bought from them once. It's what intriguingly introduced me to the material existence of actual dice that contain more than 6 sides. (I guess it didn't previously occur to me that these supra-hex polyhedrons are being used! lol)
Also, look what I found.

It doesn't necessarily have to be on an 8x8 board.
With that being said, as a suggestion, perhaps a dice doesn't have to be rolled every turn.
In my own variant, Deserted Empire, the gamehost has the option (not the requirement) to interject after at least 15 player moves. Similarly, dice-rolling to determine a new void could occur once every so or more moves; rather than after every of Black's turn. Gradually adding more voids should be a mere side feature; and shouldn't take away from chess game-play; adding a new void too often (which every of Black's turn is) would defeat the whole purpose of chess, which is still the point of a chess variant.

clarification
I was thinking that after one hole opens, another closes
so there could be a max of 1 holes at one times
sorry i thought i had said that

Ah, I see! So, the void moves; not grow bigger.
That would be interesting.
I think you should also create a condition which, upon it's satisfaction, would add a second void; and another that would likewise take away another void. Just a thought.

that is such an incredible dice
might ask for that for Christmas haha
I do say,
ArtisanDice.com does manufacture and sell some of the most luxurious, high-end quality dice I've seen anywhere. They not only produce the regular 6-sided die, they also produce octadice, icosadice, quadrodice (intriguing concept!!), decadice, and I think even a dodecadice.
This here ^^^ is American Holly; the whitest wood recorded in existence.
I might order this myself. lol
ive had this idea for awhile
so basically its just normal chess
but after black makes their move, someone rolls two 8 sided dice
one has 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and the other has a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h.
if "1 and f" are rolled, then a whole opens up on f1, etc.
if a piece is on that square, they fall into the void.
if a king falls, then checkmate
very luck dependant but idk i think its fun
also maybe you could switch turns rolling, and each player gets one or two rerolls per game
(a reroll would be for one die, (if i reroll a3, then i have to choose whether i want to reroll and have the chance of getting a3, b3, c3, d3, e3, f3, g3, h3, or if i want the chance of getting a1, a2, a3, a4, a5, a6, a7, a8.))
lmk what you think (honest opinions please)
