Why do some people not like chess variants?

I sometimes encounter people who don't like chess variants. I don't get why they don't even try playing them. It's fine if you don't like them, but why do they refuse to just try?

because they don't want to spend time playing chess variants when they could be playing chess

Chess variants are way more fun than regular chess
