I thought you'd save the bishop and trade hawk for chancellor. Obviously the chancellor is more powerful than the hawk, but is that difference in power worth a whole bishop? An interesting decision.

You might be correct. Personally I'd have given up the chancellor, simply because I have two of them. You only have one black squared bishop, now my bsb is more powerful. But my evaluation might be flawed, I haven't even begun to explore the chancellor so I might agree with you later.

So much so that I'm not that interested in capturing your rook, which I could do with another hawk fork. I think the hawk is better, certainly at the moment it is. Probably when there's less pawns the rooks are better.
I obviously capture the chancellor with my hawk if you allow it though, even though I would be sad to part with a hawk.
