But the same site has "Modern Staunton" and "Berliner". Expensive, but not that much. Made of wood and thus nicely fitting in the sphere of wooden chess pieces - to my humble opinion. As for normal chess, playing with such a set would be the same kind of self-flagellation as listening to Schönberg, again to my humble opinion. But I see nice potential non-regular pieces among them.
In this video at 5.17 we can see a strange chess set. I remember asking what it was somewhere and got the response that it is also meant to be a regular set.
Do chess sets exist that are meant to be regular, but are so differently shaped that they could be used for representing Fairy chess pieces?
