Chess960 vs Old Chess

Hi, I would like to know what are peoples thoughts on Chess960 replacing the old chess. I'm a young player and would like to compete in tournaments but I'm not sure which one to find out about ( I don't want to spend hours studying openings only to see tham be made redundant and I don't want to know little about theory only to see it get deeper...)

i think chess960 is ok for people who may want to look at chess in a different way. i have played it about two times ever its different as i say but it wont help when you go back to the orriganal so i give it a miss. sorry about the spelling

Don't know who you've been talking to, but believe me, "old chess" is not going away.  If you want to compete in tournaments, you will need to develop an opening repetoire.  Check out the study plans onsite.

Best advice for the young players who are not sure which way to go:

Learn opening principles from old chess (not memorize) and apply it into C960. Learn typical positions from old chess and of course endgames... No matter its C960 or old-chess, endgames are the same for both chess version.
