Hmm, in the first variant there are only black-squared bishops which, in addition, can eat each other in the initial position, so not good. The second variant is not fully symmetrical.
Bishops can't eat eachother unless they are cannibal bishops, which is a great idea for a new chess variant.

So cannibal chess has already been embraced in Russia and Russia is good at chess. I sense that my variant cannibal chess has been successful 
; bishops are called elefants and knights are called horses. So, I guess, it's supposed to ressemble an Indian army at the epoch of Alexander the Great. Or, maybe, the army of Hannibal ... which shouldn't be confounded with Cannibal.
