Hey man, you have a right to disagree, and a right to express yourself, but you don’t have a right to insult people and cuss
Right, seeing as I'm the OP of this thread, I've been wondering whether to bother to throw in my two cents or not. Things have simmered down so I'm going to be reckless and say, "Sure, why not."
@wars64
Nice speaking to you again Steve, but I should point out that in the context of the greater argument at hand, I'm not taking any sides. Don't get offended by what I'm going to say, I'm just saying it as I see it now.
I stand by what I said, but not how I said it. In other words - I tried it your way, Steve. I shouted, I ranted and raved, I gave snide, cryptic comments. Most people got upset. Some gave feedback. Did any of what I was ranting and raving about get fixed? No. The worst I could do was go to the 'report spam here' thread and give staff a heads up, which I did. They told me these kinds of threads are A-OK here, regardless of whether there really is some sort of underground pyramid scheme going on or not. And as my profile note says, I can't fight city hall.
I tried it your way, Steve - and I'm sorry, but your way doesn't work. The juxtaposition of this old thread and the number of correspondence threads made since January is proof of that. It hasn't worked for 3-4 years, it's not working now, and it isn't going to work in the future. The enraged opinions of one man (or two) doesn't convince this forum, and it sure as shit doesn't convince chess.com's staff group. Your way doesn't work for the simple reason that no-one is going to listen to negative criticism. It's very intimidating, and ipso facto your criticism is not going to make people do what you want them to do.
I certainly can't tell you what to do, but here's my advice - if these threads bother you so much, then don't give them so much headspace. Think about it - if this forum is a place for 'silly games and spam,' what's the point in brooding over these silly games and spam if it's just going to make you angry? Silly question really.
And you can argue that this way doesn't solve this, or that, or the next thing. I say it doesn't have to solve this, that, or the next thing, because this, that, and the next thing are issues that aren't, in the grand scheme of things, worth your time. There's no denying the fact that ruminating on what you perceive as the issues is seriously affecting you mentally, and what I'm saying, Steve, is that it's not worth stressing over. It's seriously not worth it.
There are other things, however, that definitely are worth your time - Final Wars, for instance. Six years spent working on that game: research, machines, lawyers, beta testing, now you're just mind-numbingly tweaking the finer details. It makes my head spin! Though I'm not a very strong player, I can believe it's a very strong game. It's very evident you have a gift in programming and it's something that deserves appreciation. But in the future, when people look back on Final Wars, what will their reaction be? Will they separate man from achievement? Will the side show overpower anything that's left? Maybe the reason Final Wars isn't getting the recognition you think it should be getting is because of people's reactions to the side show.
But what do I know, other than I know nothing. The only person who can steer the fate of your game is you.
And with that, hopefully this thread can be put to rest...
Support removed, I dunno, more than 1,000+ spam comments.
The entire forum was riddled with spam, virtually every single topic was infected, it took more than 6 weeks after the purge before the forum started looking a bit normal once again.
