TL;DR: chess.com should support combined variants. For example crazyhouse with live960-style initial configuration.
Hi. I like crazyhouse but the openings got a bit repetitive after time. I think this is even more of a problem in crazyhouse than in regular chess, because mistakes are much less forgiving and harder to see and there isn't a catalogue of safe openings like regular chess has. In crazyhouse it takes an awfully short amount of time for things to go south. So I tend to stick to the openings I know. Many people I play with do the same. Same people play the same opening.
A solution? Live960. Just mix up the back rank.
And while we are at it, why only have a combination of live960 and crazyhouse? Just have a bunch of checkboxes, live960, king of the hill, crazyhouse, 3 check. Let people combine for themselves. For example crazyhouse + king of the hill might be interesting, because the king getting driven out in the middle is a huge disadvantage in crazyhouse, but a huge advantage in king of the hill. The contradiction might end up in cool games.
Man, I'd love to try king of the hill crazyhouse with a live960 start.
The change shouldn't really require drastic changes on the existing software, I suppose. So, why not go for it?
Maybe enough people back me up, chess.com would introduce this.
As a non-paying member of chess.com, I obviously deserve to have a say in chess.com's future more than paying members. So chop chop, chess.com!
