Women and black people are not oppressed in chess, why do they need to be empowered?

They are though. The last time a woman was top 10 was 20 years ago. And do you see many black GMs?

What barriers are in the way of black people and women becoming gm's or world champions?

Racism, Sexism

Oh yeah, we totally have racism and sexism in chess. Chess is a game that requires skill, strategy, and the ability to think, racism and sexism do not interfere with someone's rating or title in any way shape or form. The only thing that determines someone's rating or title is the way that person plays chess.

No one is going to be there at a tournament and say NOPE you can't come in your black or a women that illegal

The women's world championship has less prize money.

That is true only because the women's championship has a smaller audience
