Hi Chess.com,

Thanks for putting this site together, it really works well and I've gotten a lot out of it.

I use it both online and also on my phone.  One thing I've noticed, as a working stiff, that the times that I have to study chess, are not times where it's easy to have a board and pieces to play with.  As I am reading books about this and still have difficulty picturing a game just using move lists, it would be beneficial to have an analysis board as part of the app.

I don't know if you'd be able to figure out a way to have it be used on a game, but even without that ability it would be a useful learning tool, at least for me and others who want to study positions during their commute.

thanks,

-josh

When using the app to play an online game of chess you can bring up an analysis board to analyze that particular game's current position.  Just tap the icon immediately below the board that looks like a minature chessboard.  I am not sure if this is what you are asking about in the second half of your post.

I cannot find an analysis board function within the app for general use.  I also think that would be a good idea.  You could setup your own positions etc...

I just realized you are referring to the iPhone app.  I only use the iPad version of the app, which I am guessing is the same.

Cool, thanks Quizzy.  I didn't notice the analysis board on the online games.  I use android and the analysis board option is there when you press the menu button.

And... I realized this exists.  Just go to play the computer and select two human players... though I will say that the department of redundancy department agrees that there should be an analysis board...

It's available on the Android app under Learn > Analysis
