I actually thought this was a good game. Admittedly, it was a little bit unexciting to be up at 2:00 a.m for, but life goes on. I think that they both played sharply, and it did look exciting even if it fizzled out. There have been plenty of short draws in great WCC's before, doesn't mean it's going to be like 2012.

this was over even more quicly than yesterday!

This match shall be named the repetition games

What is Magnus doing?!

His strength has always been his superior endgame skills. In order to exploit that advantade, he needs to actually reach an endgame.

Anands strategy is clear. He intends to pay 12 quick draws, and then beat Carlsen in the tiebreakers. So far, Vishy is right on track.

Rational_Optimist

in both games, anand forced a repetition.

If this continues all engine analysis will at least declare Carlsen the player to have played the best chess in title matches :-)

Rational_Optimist

we need 16 games for this match. 8 games will be played in normal chess and 8 games in chess960.

i literally got sleepy in the endgame stage.

I missed game 2 but I was quite sure it will be a draw after watching the crap of game 1. Sure enough, I did not miss anything.

Anand's strategy is to play for draws and go into the tiebreaks. Carlsen really needs to push and complicate the game, because it is clear that Anand will just be pushing for draws and more draws, whether he takes white or black.

He is simply going to hang on to his title no matter what it takes, even if it means all draws.

This is very very interesting! I like those games, players are still testing each other. :)

I'm shocked Carslen got Anand out of his comfort zone so quick, was an interesting game especially before the two knight exchanges.

David210

Debistro you made anand sound like a dictator who won't give up his chair (championship) :D

MSC157

Hey people, it's World Championship match. If you lose, you LOSE! It's not Candidates where you can lose twice and still win at the end.

After all, you can't say that it's boring!? When is the last time you saw Caro-Kann? Back in 1987 I guess...

EDIT: Sorry, in 2004 it was playyed twice.

"The difference between me and Anand is I am winning titles and he (Anand) is hanging on to his title".... Quote by Magnus.

I think Anand would agree too. He is going to do what he needs to do to keep his title. Even if it means boring draws all the way :)

MSC157: The 1996 Karpov-Kamsky match had lots of Caro-Kanns. But those featured Kamsky going for the Panov-Botvinnik Attack to which Karpov replied with the 5...e6 Variation.

Remaining 10 games are enough for Carlsen to prove if he is really a strong player..and his elo is not inflated..If match is tied then its a moral victory for Anand..
