It's a somewhat weak chess engine program with some bugs. why? because it's free, and it works in browsers. it's fun for casual games. If you want to play a serious chess engine, or one with more features on it, i recommend you buy one or download one somewhere. But if you want a fun, quick opponent that has some occasional quirks, use ours. It's not perfect, but we can't fix all of the issues. We ARE working on the +/-, but the developer is a little slower than expected
why the site was off for some time?
when chess.com was offline, it displayed a chess playing app that had an "expert" setting, which is clearly not even close to 2000 according to this game:
Someone should either update the engine, or change the rating.
