Baffled by the level of some players

After a few months on this site, something strikes me: I routinely measure up to players between 1800 and 2000 in slow chess IRL (my nerves always get the best of me in blitz or even 30 mn) but since I’ve been here, I get creamed by players rated around 1300, while 1800s play like IMs. And while I intended to go up to around 1900 or 2000, I find myself mostly bested by players I would destroy IRL.

I cannot scream « cheater » without proof but it is starting to look like two thirds of the people I play against are massively better than their ELO.

Am I misguided? What gives?

Hmm. Do you have another account? I didn't see any live games against 1300's in your history.

It appears that you play daily chess against 1300's. Daily chess players are allowed to use books and databases. They may play like Grandmasters for the first 15 moves before they go out of book and have to rely on their own skill.

everything online has and never will be fair play, as things get anonymous, cheaters flock to everything, this is nothing new, it has always been the case, same goes for the games were players blunder a piece and all of the sudden start playing GM level moves and win in the end, the purist will come and start yapping something about psychology and what not, but the simple matter of truth, is that yes, people cheat and the more anonymous something gets, the more people cheat

The perception of cheating levels is orders of magnitude more than the actual amount.
