bullet time cheating

I was just wondering about something which has happened to me several times already, and I would like to know whether this is just me being weird or whether this has happened to others.

Just FIY: I have an extremely fast internet connection, as I am connected to a university network atm. Measurements of stats are way higher than DSL or stuff like that.

So here is my question: I am playing a guy in 1 min ( you can see why a good connection matters ), connection is fine all the way through, then, near the end ( about 20-10 secs before end ), bar drops to orange, then red. I lag like ****, then lose. Immediately after the game, internet connection is fine, and during the next game, if I start one right after, bar is green.

Thus my question: is it conceivable that that guy spams my connection. I am quite sure it is possible, though not certain how easy it would be to do. Or is this another issue? Or am I just having bad luck? Has this happened to anyone else?

( comment by other player: "lagwin." - "yup" - "funny how that was real convenient" - "player left" )

I would like to point out that yes, I am aware that this does not influence my rating much - I tend to bounce wildly, and when I play ok, this would not do much to sink it, and when I play badly, well, those points do not matter much either.

I also do not really mind people winning on time ( I do so myself, and even though I try to make moves first and perhaps win on the board, time is the deciding factor in bullet IMO, at least on my level ). Sure, I do not love it, but normally, I have myself to blame, and I can be quite fast myself.

However, it really bothers meto lose like that, especially since those guys often do not even attempt to win on the board, leaving me with the choice of trying to win on time as well ( oops, lag ) or coming up with a plan vs. a pretty solid position in 1 min. blitz ( not a chess genius, thus, works only rarely ).

Now if I knew others have the same issue, I could at least report those guys. But I do not like reporting without any reasonable cause. So, thanks for any answers!

I have seen it happen to a few other members in Live Chess. Mine stays red throughout the game, so I'm in a different league although I have a good connection. When you talk about "guy spams my connection", I don't know if that's possible but I do know a member who can manipulate his clock without experiencing any lag. Most people think it's the compensation for the lag but that's not true. I've seen him do it when there was no lag at all. This mostly happens when he's up against a higher rated titled player especially against a GM or IM.

Is there anywhere I can report this?

I mean, when the whole game goes fine until the 10 secs warning for 2 games in a row, then I start lagging bad, against the same player, who has a blitz rating of 1250 and a bullet rating of 1700 (!), it seems there is a point to be made to look at the guy.

At the bottom of this page, click on "Help & Support". On next page, click on "Contact" at the top right. Fill in the details in the report and submit.

Thank you! I never see nav on the bottom :P

I have suffered so many times similar to what you have described above, but really do not bother as I am sure nobody is going to do anything. So  I just have fun and marvel at the opponents cheating. He knows something which I don´t.

It's not because of a connection. Check the support forums.

@jungle-book: you are right: I also wonder why someone would do such a thing and cheat on a site with literally *nothing* to gain. If that is how you gain some sort of pride in yourself, that is pretty awful and I am sorry for you.

@robert: yes, I am aware that my game app can be slow. But that is not what I was referring to: I was actually talking about a situation where the opponent's connection drops ( not mine ) and my game is fine.

In such situations, you are basically lost if you do not premove every move, no matter whether you are up on time, since you do not *know* how much you might be up on time or actually behind.

And there are some players where this happens

- at the end of the 1 minute

- several games in a row

- the connection is fine ( green ) at the beginning of the game, even after dropping near the end of the last game.

This could easily be achieved by simply generating traffic on your internet connection, that is not difficult, nor can it really be prevented by chess.com, since they cannot control what you do with your connection. They could, however, realize someone constantly does this.

Anyhow, I have gotten over it ;)
Amazing, though, what some people will do though on a free chess site with nothing to gain but virtual rating points which they would drop anyway once they reach any higher level.

Cancelled my subscription. Actually saw my opponent’s clock winding down while I waited for their move. Then suddenly their clock time replenished while mine dropped by several seconds!? Great app but pointless playing like this.

Yeah, I also don't think that those scenes from the Matrix were real.

It's lag compensation and/or small disconnects.

No chess dot.com has a problem admitted that players can alter time control...I have had many players message me with admitting by sending a 😁 before or right after doing it..the main thing to watch for is players turning increments on and off for themselves and not you so if your not playing closing attention you will notice within last 20 seconds ...I've made many reports...I've literally had players Force quit me and make me time out after check mate imagine running analysis and it's say u timed out but checkmate is in notation as last move# happens all the time...I think foreign players take advantage the most

I have played tons of games and I have never had such experience. Players don't have the power to add time for themselves. In some cases when you notice that your opponent time suddenly goes up, it is most likely a lag issue. Sometimes as a result of weak internet connection.

Many players will admit to stuffs just to troll you.

That doesn't happen. In order to modify clocks or force end games they would need full control of the live server or at least full admin access and that is highly unlikely.

But if you have your opponents ip address you can Dos them and make their Internet so flooded with traffic they can't use their Internet

Playing bullet over the internet is probably not a very good idea as there are a whole host of things that can go wrong. You never know if it is chess.com's server that is lagging either. When you connect to the chess.com server you are connecting through multiple other servers also, and if any one of those is lagging then you or your opponent are screwed.

Oh so how many games in my archive where I checkmated the opponent and timed out...on a pre move at that....I bet I have ATLEAST 300 ...I have a even reported the players that I caught manipulation server connection ...funny to say bag connection is real factor indeed but NOT ALWAYS THE CASE I even made it a note to staff in reports that connection always drops exactly when opponent IS A losing a queen or lost positional control OR MATE IS IMMINENT then and only then the magic server problems pop up..u say u played a lot of games ok... and...? This is a new account I started less than a year and id probably played more matches in that that( time frame) than anyone commenting...

If someone has enough skills to be able to mess with chess.com server. They will put it into something more profitable than just winning a random chess game.
