I am still unable to understand why some people refuse to teach their children about evolution.

They can't teach what they refuse to understand.

From their perspective it would be like teaching your child that some people believe the earth is flat. If you yourself didn't believe that you would have a hard time convincing yourself that it would be worth the while to teach your children it as a fact, as opposed to just mentioning it.

ArgoNavis

Except there is evidence for evolution.

And there isn't for the Earth being flat.

Evolution is still technically a theory, therefore has as. much viability as there being aliens. There are to many theories in the world, you have to pick, in order to have something to believe in.

Let's say for a moment, that they can't teach what they refuse to understand. Ok for the point of this post, you're point is true. Why do you care? The OP was just looking for like minded people to join a chess group.

Everyday, I see a lot of stuff on the net and in forums that I don't agree with so I choose to stay out of the conversation. It's not censorship sometimes it just not being a jerk.

ArgoNavis

Well, saying that evolution has as much viability as stating that aliens exist is simply ridiculous.

Of course you cannot be absolutely sure about evolution, but that happens with every scientific theory.

How do you know that gravity applies to all the universe? We cannot know for sure, but it seems the most logical conclusion according to the data we have.

Anyway, if they don't want to teach it to their children, it's not my problem. Let them do what they want.

crossword730

As you say, we cannot be sure about a lot in this world. That is why people turn to theories and religions to bridge over what we cannot prove.

crossword730

What are people's ideas on why people crave things to believe in, and why that makes them more socially secure?

If they don't teach evolution, then the kids haven't gotten an education. That's grammar school stuff.Lots of adults in the US don';t have more than a 3rd grade education.

I agree. The OP said looking for X, and it happened to include the word Christian. I know a lot of atheists I care about and I've got no beef with them. But it'd be great if the topic could stick to what the OP was requesting. And though I can't because of my countries laws, I'd be interested in joining the group, Issac willing :D

LeggomyEigo

good manners are universal

DeeFan

If you aren't Christian and homeschooled then don't post on here...

ijgeoffrey
Or how about simply, if your goal is to stir up trouble, please don't post here. If you don't like homeschooling, you don't have to click on the forum.

How dare you boo me...XP

@Chris, the admin team and I are seriously deliberating your request. We've never had a request like this, so please bear with us. :D
crossword730

I would allow it, if it were up to me.

LeggomyEigo

@Issac np. I certainly wouldn't remove you from my friend list if I'm out. I have family that homeschool and have sympathy with homeschoolers. It's simply not allowed here in Japan and if I don't fit that's cool too.
