Sometimes in Tactics Trainer, a game starts with 'your move', but doesn't tell you whether you are playing Black or White.

Overall, I am able to navigate the new format easily, for the functions that I use and I do like the new. Well done Erik (and team).

I must have been away that week then - from a statistical point of view the members trialing the beta site would be exactly the one who love new things and hence feedback would have been biased.

I am assuming the feedback was positive !! was it?

The people testing would have been interested in seeing the new design and helping to quash as many bugs as possible, provide feedback on things that they didn't like or did like, and offer suggestions for improvement.

I saw a few people come across the feedback group that tested it, didn't like it, stop using the beta and left the group (or at least stopped posting). There were a lot of posts giving suggestions on things that were liked and disliked. And there were at least two different callouts for testers; the first specifically asking for people with web/QA/UI skills and later I think it was open to most anyone.

I too old to learn new formats.

I do most of my Tactics on mobile devices now but in my test just now, I didn't see any problems; it showed me which color was to move each time. If you run across those that don't you should probably report them so they can be checked.

Back to the way things were before Monday?

This is the new design and the site won't be going back to the old one.

Not a new site design. Is plagarism of Facebook & same font.

Why all the '' can't '', '' cannot '', '' won't '', '' impossible '', '' can't be done '' etc ?

What is wrong with  '' we will listen let's see what we can do '' mentality instead of dogmatic posturing ?

Take a look at anything erik has written over the last couple of days. Click on his name and view his content. In particular check his news and blog items. Then read any of the topics here about the change, including this one.

The simple fact is that this design has been in the works for around a year. They are not going to scrap it and go back to the old design which will have to be updated anyway to do some of the work they are planning on doing anyway. erik has said this is the new design going forward.

And the staff is listening. Bugs are getting fixed. Some of the layout is being changed. Some of the formatting. Other things I probably don't know about. All because the staff is listening and doing what they can do to make the design work better.

I have been reading as many of the update posts and problems that I can and I can see the changes and the willingness to listen to the members. So yeah, this design is essentially what we are going to have going forward with fixes and tweaks along the way. No matter what, some people are not going to like it. But if you really think that is all dogmatic posturing then you are not reading/viewing the same site I am.

There was a group of around 275 people supposedly advising staff prior to re-design & implementation.

Now some of the remaining thousands of us that use & contribute to the site daily decide to speak or comment on the result the minimum-requirement should be that staff pay attention to this...

The site is not a new-design ! Is plagarism of Facebook with cheap, nasty, babyish-appearance & further changes should be considered to remedy that. Particularly fonts, themes, user-preferences.

Am perfectly aware that no one likes to have '' new-project '' into which alot of hard-work has been committed critiscised. But crtiscism is the acid-test of anything new & cannot-change things now mentality will not make things any better.

No point in '' listening '' Martin if stock-response is going to be nothing we can do now. This is it we are moving forward & you all better like it or lump it ?

This is my synopsis thus far. Accurate ?

Martin_Stahl

Anyone that is paying attention will see that the staff is paying attention Wink

You are behaving defensively because you are member of the re-design group & partly responsible yes ?

So don't bullshit me please.

I'm behaving the way I am because it is the truth. I became part of the redesign group when it first was offered to help with QA and feedback. Responsible? Yeah, I'm partly responsible for reporting some of the bugs and other issues so they could get fixed.

I don't like all of the design choices but other than bugs and usability issues my dislike is purely subjective. The overall look hasn't changed drastically from the first days of the beta, from what I can recall, and it isn't really as bad as some make it out to be.

Either I missed this part or you did a nice edit after the fact (I really need to quote more often Frown)

That isn't what I said. They aren't saying there is "nothing we can do now." Please don't be so obtuse. They are saying, "tell us what doesnt' work, what you don't like and be specific." Just saying, I don't like the new design, give me back the old one isn't going to get anyone anywhere.

The fact is, they are making changes based on feedback. No, you won't get the old design back but you will get one that works.

Hi Guys and Gals,

I have been in contact with Erik.  I want you all to know that he is looking at all the feed back and making a list of thing that need to be fixed.  His team is working on it all.  He knows there are bugs that need to be worked out and a few design changes that will need to be made.

He also knew this from the moment he launched the new design.  Keep up the feed back as his team will know what to look for.  This is the best site on the Internet and we just got a updated design that we will have to learn and help Erik and his team to refine.  He does want to make everyone happy so we can keep this the best site on the Internet.... Erik and his team is listening to each and everyone of us.  They just need some time to get to it all and fix it.   Please be patient, it will take a little time.  Just keep the feedback going.

this is very smart strategy being employed by him and his team.......almost too smart......

Wish I was getting money for this, I am only telling you what he told me in some messages we exchanged.  You don't see staff next to my name. He and are are friends only.....  He is listening to all of us, he is making changes.....

...ummmm...facetious? kidding?

Under the game tab in someone's profile which lists their live games,

I no longer see what used to be listed; the total games played, win/loss/draw..categorized by bullet, blitz...and also some other details like highest rated opponent defeated.

Am I just not looking in the right place?  It was nice to quickly see all this info before, and it didn't require being premium then either.  I don't mind not being able to see past 30 days of the specific games themselves, not being a premium member, but it was nice to see the other info I listed above.

If you go to their profile you can see all that on the Activity tab. Right column, towards the bottom. There is an little arrow on the right of each category; click that and it will expand it so you can see.

This is one of the poorest redesigns I've ever seen on a web site! The online page is too crowded..... And here's one I can't stand: YOU REMOVED THE LOGOUT OPTION! Now once I logon, chess.com keeps me logged on even if I 'X' out of the window..... Therefore I no longer get email notifications that it's my turn to move. This re-design is a text book example of "why fix it if it ain't broke?"  I am not resistant to change... I like change... It's refreshing.... But this new design really is a bad one.

One more thing.... The first post was from a staff member "welcoming" questions and comments...... There are LOTS of posts here.... Where are the staff responses?
