chess abandonment

This website is insane. I’m eight minutes into a game of 15|10 and then I go AFK for three minutes and get “Game abandoned” on my side. I had 11:00 minutes on the clock left. Why is this even a part of the system? Maybe I’m naive but my time is MY time. What if I was just THINKING? My opponent spent maybe five minutes for his turn but I don’t even get three? What gives? Cuz I definitely didn’t disconnect
