Well done!

Unfortunately, given that 3000 is the sort of ratings that the very best have, you're really asking whether it's possible for you to compete for the World Championship in a year.

A more realistic goal would be to start competing OTB and getting a FIDE rating and working towards a title with them.

My guess is that going from 2000 to 2300 is harder than going form 1000 to 2000, or at least as hard but I may be wrong. And 3000 no way, If you had the potential to go from 2000 to 3000 in a year you would be 2000 just knowing the rules never having studied a day in your life.

HowFaresTheKing

It looks like you gained 1,000 points in just the month of September. That's incredible!

Awesome! Sadly, another 1000 increase next year isn't really mathematically feasible (and by this I mean impossible in every way except theoretically). After a year with chess (maybe more if you played before chess.com), then I'm sure you have realized rating is tougher to gain at higher rating levels. Not only is each game generally with a smaller margin of error (fancy way of stating that better players mess up less often), but there are math reasons why this is true as well. It isn't just about winning a bunch. GM Magnus Carlsen has been World Champion for several years now and his OTB rating has never crossed 3000 - no one has (although a few GMs including Carlsen have in weaker online rating pools). In fact, Carlsen has been in the 2800s for about a decade now. Is he "stuck" or did he plateau? Not at all xD It is just that he literally doesn't gain rating from many players because his rating is so much higher. Play a rated chess.com game versus a 1000 chess.com player and you'll notice you gain zero points upon winning. You're "expected" to win so much on average that you don't gain any points for a win - same with Carlsen, but against players in the 2000 range!

Knowing how the math of the system works, even if you won almost every OTB game from now until a year later, then you probably still wouldn't be at 3000. Online is almost as tough, but slightly "easier" because you don't have to wait as long for games to be set up. Good luck with the amazing rating boost, but as others have mentioned:

perhaps going for a norm/title is a more feasible goal if you care enough about it.

Doesn't look like you were really 1000 rated when joining. But good job on the progress. Well done.

They are pretty real mate.... not sure what you are smoking.

nTzT

Again, I looked at your profile and there's no indication you were 1000 rated. It's like me saying the same thing and that I got to 1900-2000 in a few months, but I played chess when I was younger.

well then you should easily be able to reach 2500 by the next january?

This is what it looks like when someone improves that amount for real in a year or whatever:

The OP just joined at 1700+ ish strength or whatever it seemed. Same as I did. It's not like I am making a post about going from 0-1900+ in one year.

On the side note, I'd say, it's no brilliant nor intelligent idea, to drown oneself into long and hard studies, that'll make of you a person that know and understand very little of History, Geography, Geology, Litteracy, Biology, Economics, Politics, Religions and many other things.

It was said about Bobby Fischer, that, outside Chess, he could barely lace his shoes... Is anyone sure they want to be that?.

Yea, well Bobby Fischer sacrificed a lot and it was worth it. He did what he set out to do. Sure for most that's insane and not worth it but can't hold it against him.

LeeEuler

Wow! A huge jump in October too, that is quite the progress. I don't think 3000 is gonna happen just statistically, but hey prove us wrong!

Worth it? That's questionable. He turned unable to enjoy the fame and success, and I see no hint he had a joyfull or even peacefull life after Reykjavik. The poor guy did not even make it to have children to carry his name and ensure his bloodline. He was so lost, he ended up trash talking in public interviews, got banned from his own country for a handfull of dollars, and finished his life lonely and miserable in a cold place.

I have seen famous enough GMs in their old age, dragging themselves in bitter mood and dressed in rags, from lousy tournament to the next lousy tournament just to have the dignity of buying their own food. Mind the true cost of such a useless achievement...

A lot of what you say is true, but Fischer's name will be remembered forever. It is sad though that he went mental. Some say it's because of the Russian's pressuring him. I don't know, the guy needed a break. He was still so young it's sad how it ended. Really is.

Water, mostly. You claim the ratings aren't real. How can they possibly not be real? You are delusional. Your rating is a reflection of how well you do versus other players on chess.com. That's all it needs to do. S
