I would like the game of the day to be an example of the opening of the day

Would it be possible for the online [correspondence] chess games to have a time limit lower than 24 hours? Like an  option for say 6 hours or 12 hours? For faster games but not as fast as live.

I don't think this is practical.  You would need to be at chess.com 24/7 to make sure you don't time out.

It's just an option. You don't have to choose it if it doesn't fit your lifestyle.

I do have 24/7 broadband access and don't think I am the only one. So folks like me would like the option for 6 or 12 hours. It would be nice to have the choice.

So I guess you don't need to sleep?  If so I guess it would work then.

I'd be happy to have a 12 hour option for online chess.

You could move at about 9:00 A.M. and 9:00 P.M.

I would also like the option to get an 'undo-move' button for five seconds after you submitted your move; I always see better moves when I just played one.

TheGrobe

Why not just hold of on hitting Submit until you're sure?

Redvii
In the computer analysis, it bumps to the top of the page after each move - it's annoying and takes away from the feature. Unless there's already a fix to this?
TheGrobe

The only way I've found is to click the "next move" itself within the analysis' move list.  It's frustrating and a clumsy workaround but it's better than using the buttons.

TheGrobe

I don't know that using the submit button versus visualization of a single move is that much of a crutch.  The analysis board on the other hand....

Universal opening book (conditional moves that apply to all your games) for Online Chess.  I feel like it's senseless to start a tournament and then have to go and make the move 1. e4 for like 10 games in a row.  I also realize that some people might abuse this and go program their entire opening book from their favorite database software, so perhaps limit to 4 or 5 moves (or some other set number of moves).  Just a little something to speed up the games for those of us who like to repeat the same systems on a regular basis!

How about the option to allow another member to edit your posts for as long as you wish, and if they misuse the privelage, you can change the posts back as well as not allow them to edit your posts anymore...

How about when you roll over someone's name or photo you get a little pop-up with their rating and options to challenge, message &c.

on live chess if you get disconnected mid game can you have your clock run while you try to reconnect if your opponent wishes to claim the win you could add that button (obviously in a 15 10 game the opponent may wait 30 seconds then just claim the win. But in a 2/1 game i'd like a chance to reconnect if the opponent wants to keep playing

A draw/stalemate should be automatically announced if the same position is repeated 3 times during a game.

No -- it's up to the players to recognize that this has occurred and to claim the draw if desired.  No indication should be given.

I'd like to have an improved version of the little Notes window.

My ideal way to use it is this: analyze the position using the analysis board, putting ideas, lines and conclusions in the Notes window. Decide on a move and play it. When the opponent answers, delete the lines that didn't occur, and continue with the line that did. But I'd like to have the old Notes around somewhere, to review after the game.

As a list of features:

- A (much) larger Notes window would be very nice

- If it could have a place in the same window as the Analysis board, or in a second popup, great.

- A button to "Add Notes to PGN as comment" would be perfect (I'd use it right before I made my move). All the old Notes would be stored and in the PGN, and downloadable.
- Some way to automatically delete lines that aren't relevant anymore would rock, but I've no idea how this would work.

I'm probably not the first to propose any of this, but I think it would be nice to have :-)

As an extension of the request for the ability to annotate games while they are in progress, I've suggested the ability to also save multiple analysis lines along with move-by-move annotations.  This would allow you not only to pre-annotate moves (with the ability to edit them after the fact of course), but would also allow you to pre-enter alternate lines with annotations that could also be included in the PGN.

I think this would do everything you're asking for.

Flamma_Aquila

I have a wish for the wishlist.

I would like to be able to get more detailed states on TT. Before joining here, I was practicing tactics at Chesstempo.com, and it gave me detailed stats as to what I was missing. For example, if it told me I was only getting 30% of the pin problems correct, I would know to work on pins. I could set the server to give me only pin problems.

I think something like that would be helpful here.

Thanks!

If you really want to make the site better:

~ Simplify.

~ Do less things and do them better.

~ Stop adding things and tighten down what you already have.

~ Stop the quest for rapid growth and trying to satiate too many people.  Pick a single path and walk it.

~ Dump this thread and the whole idea of solictiting ideas from the user base.  It's a poor business model that may look good and may make people feel good but really only causes owner headaches, confusion, loss of mission and in the end will cause you more consternation and lost revenue than it will add in positives.

~ Figure out what it is you do on your own and do it.  People that want to buy will buy.

~ Stop trying to be everything to everyone.  It is silly and not working too well.

:) there is nothing wrong with hearing people's opinions. sometimes there are good insights. but we don't feel the need to have features dictated to us or to please everyone. we do what we feel is best. but we also like to hear ideas.

TheGrobe

This type of engagement is a part of what makes this site so great.  Most business owners would kill for this kind of a pipeline into what their customers would like and pay for and perhaps more importantly what they would not like to see implemented.

I don't see you holding your opinions back on the latter category.

Painterroy

I think a good thing to have here is videos for al paying customers. Right now only Diamond members get to see unlimited videos. All other paying customers get none (except for the 5 free, but ones not of their choosing). Maybe what they should have is any choice of maybe 10 per month for Gold, 20 per month for Platinum, & the unlimited for Diamond. There are plenty of us on budgets who can not afford the almost $100 for a yearly membership. But we are paying members too & it doesn't seem fair that we dont get at least a c free choice of at least some videos per month.
