Sure, but someone with a 2000 rating and an average opponent rating (AOR) of 1800 might also have come up through the ranks by spending a lot of time playing lower rated players when they themselves were lower rated and as a result have an AOR that is weighted towards those lower-rated early opponents.

Now, a moving average AOR would be a great improvement that gives you the information I think you're after.

someone could have the same rating as you but have been playing and winning consistently people rated 200 points below, i like to try and play poeople who are quite closely matched to myself

And yet, you have an average oponent rating 150 points below your rating. I do not try to play people below myself, but I still have a lower average opponent. It's not very indicative of anything.

Um, people have to be aware if their opponent is on vacation. This is just how it works. And besides, there is no way for a person to exploit you being away on vacation any more than if they had access to your account for just a few minutes.

RE stalkers: I Would be pretty honoured if someone took a 6 hour airplane ride in an attempt to murder me.

TheGrobe

What are they going to do?  Rob my account for my member points?

The fact is, if I have a game on and I'm on vacation anyone already cansee my remaining vacation.  It's when I'm not on vacation that it's obscured.  It's a question of transparency before you start a game.  For me, it's mostly because I don't want to get into a game with a chronic user of timeout protection who's on his last leg and is going to end up timing out on me.

I can think of nothing untoward anyone could possibly do with that information unless I did something really stupid like put my address or phone number on my public profile in which case I could be victimized under the current settings and deserve it anyway.

Mobile Chess -- I'd like a "next game" option on each game screen srather than having to go back to the games list page to navigate through the games.  This is especially problematic when I have more than one game against the same opponent as I can't tell the difference between them on the games list page and often end up clicking on the same game multiple times.

Zhane

on the same topic why don't we have a mobile phone vibrating when you have limited time left.

TheGrobe

I'd also like to be able to set up a timed poll of my games on my Blackberry and a visible indicator (maybe change the chess.com icon slightly) when I have a new move to make (i.e. one that I haven't reviewed already).

Eternal_Patzer

How about multi-move time controls in turn-based chess?  i.e.  10 moves in 30 days rather than 3 moves/day.    This is the standard time control for correspondence chess.

Is there some reason why this would be hard to implement?  If so, I'll quit asking for it Tongue out

TheGrobe

Yes -- please can we have some new time controls for turn based?

Maybe you mean 30 moves in 10 days?

But yes, please give us more flexible time controls so that people (1) can play faster games (2) without being so anal that they can't miss a day or two.

if you want to join in the discussion on these types of time controls then do so here

Thanks.  Nice to know I'm not the only one who is asking for more flexible time controls.  I was feeling a little lonely. Cool

TheGrobe

Faster games with enough flexibility to allow people to take a few days if they needed them would benefit tournaments immensely.

The no vacation option is just a band-aid that addresses something that I personally believe is only a perceived problem.  New time controls have the ability to address the actual problem.

Eternal_Patzer

I think a lot of us who are nervous about playing at 1 day/move would gladly try 10 moves in 10 days.   I know I would.

slack

I don't see how a 10 move/10 day system could work. It is different than the current set-up, which is that a player must make a move within a 3 day window. Instead, there is 10 days from the start of the game in which both players must make 10 moves. But what happens if your crafty opponent stalls and makes his 10th move minutes before the deadline expires? Do you time-out?

TheGrobe

I think each opponent has their own 10 day clock that only counts down when it's their move.

Right.  Your clock would only run when it's your move -- same as now.  We already have 10 days for one move, it just doesn't seem like it would be technically that difficult to have 10 days for 10 moves - but there may be some technical reason why it's hard to do so.

I really think this would speed up Chess.com generally if it caught on.   There would be a real incentive to move quickly - which we currently don't have.

TheGrobe

Yes, hourglass timers would be cool too and would also speed games up significantly.  I really think that this is what's required to get rid of the "my tournament is moving too slow" complaints that result in requests for changes that won't actually affect the pace in 99% of cases such as the no vacation option or advancing to the next round when the remaining games don't factor.

I think it would be fun to have Chess960 in live chess! Laughing

I don't know if after so many messages here, chess.com staff will have time to check all of them, but there I go with another request.. :)

- I'd like that for country teams, there were a rule set by the system preventing players joining more than a country team.

- We could create an official country team list and change the site code in order to prevent a player joining 2+ different teams at the same time.

Alternatively, we could do it simply using the flags the players are flying. (you can only join the Official Country Team corresponding to that flag, and if you change it, automatically you are removed from that team)

Of course, any player could join any other groups which were not from the World League officials.

(It would help a lot to fix the controversy and cheating problems we are currently having at the world league)

Thanks in advance for your reply on this matter.
