Chess.com Greeter Matches

As a greeter myself, I find that many people who are just starting out on chess.com are not able to make their moves every three days.  This is a problem as the chess.com greeter matches are automatically set at 3 days per move and this can lead to greeter matches ending on the first move because the opponent cannot reach a computer in time to make his next move.

Would it not be easier to simply have a setting where the new chess.com member could choose the length of time for his greeter match instead of being shocked when he next logs on to find that he has lost because he could not play in time for the three day time limit.  Any other suggestions would be appreiciated.  Grayhound

It is an interesting idea however I think the issue is that many new members abandon the site all together after their first visit unfortunately so increasing the game time may not help so much.

I agree with Patzer... I have never gotten a game beyond the opening in any of my greeter games, and only one that I recall past the first two moves.

I have had one or two that go past the first few moves but I find that the playeres that play these matches stay on for quite some time.  Regardless of wheter not many players would stay on, is it not more important to make sure that those that do want to stay on do not get a bad first impression.

I stopped doing greeter games recently.....realised I wasn't really enjoying logging anymore and having to slog through10-15 games that never got past the first move, and often had 'HURRRRYYYY' or 'MOVE!!!!' in the chat dialogue box as well.

I'm happier just playing games with people I want to play with.

i dont find anyone that loses/wins on the 1st move wheni  play chess. they either take one day, or i just find new games. btw, im not really colombian, and theres no such thing as lag city. its just that a person in soldier front (game) is named el patron and he lags so much everyone hates him

The way that I'm saying that people lose on the first move is when they don't have a choice of time limits for their move and cannot therefore make their move in time.

I personally believe Grayhound has a very good point i have just started and it is not that easy getting on every 3 days i go on once a week at least so it is hard to go on every 2 day

Three days is plenty of time for a move.  If someone doesn't have access to a computer or interest to move more expediently, maybe they shouldn't be playing on line chess.  Speaking from experience, a chess game is a two way street and it's not pleasant for the other person to have to wait that long for a move.
