Additional graphic element (crown, sun, etc.) will harm the balance of the logo too. There is already a graphic element - pawn. It should be sole there to not dither the focus.

I've worked in Photoshop for few years and have some experience with this stuff... adding another word is not good... it distracts from play. learn. share. and it's just too complicating which is not what logos should be... BETA was there for a functional reason... now that the functional reason is gone, why should we make another one?
What about the depth of the pawn? Is it better or worse in my variant?
I like the logo. Pawns are the soul of Chess.com

Choose one for the homepage, of course, but why not make alot of different disigns that we as members can then choose from for our own homepages. All different colors and styles to match our pages... just a thought.
