Why the concern over cheating in amature Chess? If someone cheats me and then wins the game, so what? I had the experiece and fun of playing and probably learned something. The cheater gets nothing - actually less than nothing. However, if serious money is rewarded for winning a correspondence match the problems of cheating, real or imagined, would probably destroy the match before completing a game.

Why all the concern over cheating?
If a player cheats in a game with me so what? I get the pleasure and experience of playing the game, he does not. I will learn something and make another small step to improve my game, he will not. Someday soon he will become bored with the game and be gone, I will still be there enjoying Chess and my game will be somewhat improved.
If there is a significant monetary reward for the winner of the game then the game must be played in person or there will be suspicion between the players that will destroy the point of the game.

Hezzie, that is definitely a common opinion.
Many people don't like it if they find out that their opponent is using assistance. So chess.com goes to pretty good lengths to find these users and close their accounts.

In other words, some people may not have a problem with it, but there is a lot of value in having a cheater-free website.
I don't have a problem with cheaters. But I have only a limited time and it affects me if I play a game with such a disgusting person. Because I learn nothing from it. So yeah, a cheater gets nothing from cheating, but I also get nothing from playing with a cheater. And I care about my time. That's all.
I also acknowledge the value of advanced chess (after all, do you know who created this type of chess?). But humans must play with humans and cheaters should play between themselves.

If a player cheats in a game with me so what?
Cheating poisons the spirit of trust and sportsmanship it cheapens Chess for many Players who have an honor code and believe in what is right it matters alot.

so i noticed in this one game that my opponents clock kept on gaining more time rather than losing. and i was just wondering is there actually a way to do that... and if there is how exactly do you do that... lol.... or was it just a gliche?

This post has become the longest winded, most fruitless and directionless discussion I have ever set eyes on.
It is also the largest misallocation of writing and reasoning talent ever to have occured in the modern world. The time people lost contemplating and writing the material posted here is a tragedy.

Ever read Hegel?

So arguing this topic is a waste, but the meta-argument about the merits of the argument isn't?
At least we were discussing something relevant to the site and its members.

You had me at "dialectics."
Alhough, the function of "masturbatory" within your last statement was surely paramount to all other descriptions of what this discussion has devolved into, and might I add that if you perhaps reallocated your reasoning and communicatoin skills to legal practice I believe you could thrive since you possess qualities that I, as a hypothetical criminal defendant, would be happy to see in my own lawyer if I was arrested for a DUI or some other gross misdemeanor or felony crime since I do engage in non-violent nefarious activities from time to time including, but not limited to, voyeurism, DUI, illegal narcotics endeavors, fake diploma sales, etc.
Why don't you create a separate topic in which to discuss about discussing about cheating, dialectics, masturbation and other topics you find so interesting?
It does take a lot of time to catch a cheater. The last thing they want is banning an innocent. And I guess that adding more features to the site and bug-hunting is more important than looking up some idiots.
Besides, as the discussion about databases clearly showed, the great cheaters will never be catch. Chess.com will only catch the small fish, those with 100% agreement with Rybka at a normal depth. Those who play ICCF-style (and therefore defeat easily a lone Rybka), will never be caught.
Yes, I also had enough of the online "chess". I realized that what is called here "online" chess is just chess for people who never played a real chess game OTB. And they will never play. For me, this is just a strange game with the chess pieces and the chess board, a game which I clearly don't understand. It is not the chess I loved to play.
I am finishing my games and I will play here extremely rarely (if ever).
I saw that they updated the "2800+" list. Absolutely no player in online chess above 2500. Isn't it a wonderful world? And a wonderful site? Only a few bad apples (cheaters) but they are caught very quickly.
Enjoy the playing experience :))
