not only do poor people not have any money, they also hate to read.
commercialization of chess.com

A one-year Gold membership is less than $30. How much did your last chess book cost? Your chess set? The last tournament you entered? Your chess clock? That case of beer in your fridge? That carton of smokes?
You could help support continued improvement of the site AD FREE for a YEAR for only thirty dollars. Thirty dollars. C'mon guys... the economy is bad, but it ain't THAT bad. I should know. I'm in sales.
@get_lost: Just log out.
@PrawnEatsPrawn: I did read it. I don't like adblock because it suppresses the only source of income of most websites. If everyone did use adblock, there would be no free internet.
@excelguru: I use this site to play blitz chess and for puzzles which other sites do as well, maybe not as nicely but for free.
I also know you can remove the sound of the ads thank you.
@GradyMan: You probably even haven't seen how irritating the ads are. Plus, I'm just saying that your beloved chess.com could lose a lot of users because of this.

I've never seen ads on Chess.com, or Facebook, etc. Like Prawn, I use adBlock. It's a stretch to imagine "everyone" using adBlock, and causing the collapse of the free internet. I already pay close to $50 a month to have "free internet" from my service provider. I think the greater concern is that despite the diligent netheads paying to watch ads, there continue to be too many undeoderanted people, too many un-Swiffered houses, too many people who don't own a Dodge, too many people who don't vote, too many single people, too many... who..... too many......

there's no "free ride" play or pay, If you're unhappy there's the door...
Just thinking out loud?

totally a risk worth taking i suspect.

Especially since they won't be losing the people willing to pay for the service rendered to them..
And for those that are so poor that paying isn't an option - wouldn't they understand better than most that getting things for free is something to cherish and can't be taken as a given?
I bet they'd be more than happy to watch an add if it meant free online chess. Which it does.
NoScript = win. Find it at www.google.com

Tacics trainer has become too annoying to use. When, (not if as it seems to be going), they start adding talking ads to the live chess, it's off to find another site, or just stop playing chess. Either will work fine for me.
"ches.com memberships are much cheaper than cable, phone, or isp services."
Are you seriously comparing a single website to access to the entire internet?
