Daily game players using vacation to add time to clocks

There is a strange and annoying problem with daily games, vacation l, and clocks. Even if it's hasn't happened to you, I would like to know thoughts, and hopefully see a change, because this DOES happen. Has anyone else been in the middle of a daily game, and then their opponent goes on vacation.........and it turns out that they have started a ridiculous amount of daily games that they could not finish, so they are just adding time to their clocks? This has happened to me where the opponent has started almost 300 games at the same time. And, (this is where the problem gets REALLY bad) sometimes they even pause their vacation, make moves on some games, and then go BACK on vacation, all the while being online at points during their supposed vacation. To sum up --- the vacation privilege can be abused to become a way for people to manipulate their clocks after a problem of their own creation. They add 21, 45, or even 90 days to their clock that I, and none of their other opponents, have. They can keep playing and then going back to where they have added time. And it means I have wasted my time by starting and playing a game with them. It is not fair play. Does anyone else experience this and think there should be some change? Or have general thoughts on this?

When a member goes on vacation, 24 hours is automatically deducted from their available vacation bank. If they come off vacation before that time elapses, they don't lose the unused time and the difference gets added back to the games where they are on the move, excluding games in no vacation tournaments, up to the time control.

Add to that, premium members automatically get placed on vacation when low on time in one or more games and can't turn that off. So, someone with a lot of games could potentially have that happen.

Every member can go on vacation and if they come off before the 24 hours, will have the same thing happen. It's by design.

Ok. I may have misunderstood what was going on, then. Maybe it is not so insidious as I made it sound - but I be fair, it did LOOK that way. At any rate........the whole thing is still annoying and personally I wish people didn't get saved by vacation when on low time...premium or not. That doesn't seem fair and people shouldn't start literally 300 daily games (I'm not exaggerating) if they can't play them, because it is a waste of my time and their time. And, again, vacation at that point, whether automatic or not, doesn't seem fair. We agreed to a time control and should play it. At this point they are not on vacation because they have to be - they are on vacation because of a choice they made to start all these games. This has happened more than once and it's irritating. The one opponent who started the 300 games did not move my entire semester from January to April. It wasn't as huge a deal because we were not past the opening but it's happened now where I am in a winning position going into an endgame vs someone who stated 90 games and got 45 days added to their clock.

With games that can last months and events that can last years, vacation time is very useful in Daily Chess.

There have been request for no-vaction daily seeks, but I believe that's a very low priority update and not likely to happen soon. The other option is only to play in no-vaction tournaments.

I don't think there should not be vacations. I agree that it is useful. A vacation from daily chess in general is fine. I just think this particular problem -- starting way too many games, having time added, making moves, having that time re-added -- with using vacation is irritating for all of the reasons that I have said. I think it is a useful privilege that can be and is used for the wrong reasons by some players.
