There are many who dream of becoming the next Magnus, Young players who join a local chess clubs, join a chess site like Chess.com i can relate to this, Chess is a beautiful game and you can look at the chess stars making millions and think i could become a professional chess player. I lived that dream once encourage when I was young by my uncle who spent 53 years in and out of weekend chess congresses a decent player who eventually made it to F.M he encouraged me to follow in his footsteps and a waisted most of my youth following his dream in smokey old halls and weekend chess congresses until I realised unless your an exceptionally talented chess player who can break past the 2600 barrier at a early age your not going to make a decent living, yes you could become a decent player hitting 2000 and be picking up the odd congress open prize of £300 pounds Stirling and living out of weekend B&Bs but in reality there are easier ways to earn a living like going to university and becoming an accountant or solicitor I spent 15 years of my youth chasing the dream achieving youth awards and eventually a C.M living the dream but in reality having to accept enjoying this beautiful game as a hobby and leaving its journey to those few who are exceptional in ability to begin such a journey.
