Oh absolutely, and please use open-source whenever possible - and anything but IE! Firefox is great, I can't speak to Opera + chess.com, but stay away from M$ browsers. Use Netscape Navigator instead if you have to :p

Mine didn't. I got the updates for 2.2 OK but it didn't upgrade me to version 3. You'll have to go get it.
You can set it on automatic updates under Help and Update Firefox. In Germany, the proper Firefox 3.0 has been released about one week ago.
it is really very nice of erik to be so publicly enthusiastic about firefox 3, given the *slight* conflict-of-interest (adblockPlus). What can I say? Wonderful site. Wondeful man, erik. Wonderful browser, firefox.
re chess.com email - youve to experiment with it :) it is on a different secure server. I had probs initially but now working it is automatic for me. Sorry I can't tell you because my *mind* doesn't remember how, my *fingers* do.
btw what does this have to do with firefox? the mozilla email-client is thunderbird.
re firefox updates:
firefox ("firefox 1") used to update to newer versions/builds of firefox ("firefox 1"). Not to firefox 2.
firefox 2 updates to newer versions/builds of firefox 2. Not to firefox 3.

Opera makes this site usable on my 10 year old Mac. I can run Firefox but it is about as fast as a tortoise with no legs.
Eric, I took your advice and downloaded Firefox- thanks for the recommendation- works great for me and my needs- had to experiment a little but got everything worked out and is doing a pretty good job
