Erik from Chess.com here. Ask me almost anything!

erik, isn't this a little bit like a chesscube/lichess sync? Lichess have these fancy, flowing boards, and the side bars in the live chess menu resemble chesscube.

What's really special about chess.com is only the forums though, ask anything, get answered (even if the answers are criticism,  still...)

When do the devs plan to fix these things ?

Also, can we have buttons everywhere where a chess board is, which allow to copy a) the fen of the current position and b) the moves of the current game to the clipboard? (downloading a pgn is unhandy)

Just saw it and messaged you for more info!

I don't know. We've been working on this redesign for 3 years. I don't spend time worrying about what other chess sites are doing, honestly. We do everything internally and from our own designs and hopes for the product.

Why is there NEVER EVER a moderator in the help & support channel?

Or is that channel just a bluff?

I tried at least a couple of dozen times over the last few years.

On chess.com live chess it seems there is some small delay between moves. Nothing to impact the clocks significantly (that I'm aware of), but for example it seems that even when both sides are premoveing it's not lightening fast. It gives the games a different feel.

Will this delay go away in later versions of the site?

This has been debated 100 times over. There are those who believe that premove should have NO delay, and others who believe it shouldn't even exist. We have settled on a .1 second delay per premove.

What I mean is, I might time a 1|0 game, and in real time it lasts 2 minutes + 10 seconds, and one player has another 10 seconds on their clock. That's 20 seconds of delay.

Sure maybe each player was delayed equally so it makes no difference. But it gives speed games a different feel. I was wonder if whatever causes that can or will be changed. Maybe it's unavoidable with international games or with so many on the server.

I just now clocked a Hikaru - So 1|1 game (viewed on youtube) to have 29 seconds added.

Who would you want to subtract network time from? If it takes, say 250ms for a round trip of a move (from your browser, to our server, and then to my computer), who's clock are you suggesting that 250ms should be subtracted from? Yours while you are waiting for me to receive it? Or mine, even though I haven't seen the move yet?

It's a good question... we should probably just close that channel, honestly. Forums or support center are better places to get help!

Erik,I have a couple of questions:

1. Will the final version of V3 have links on the game interface to the rules of chess.com? For instance, in Live Chess there ought to be a reminder displayed at the minimum of the beginning of the game of "No outside help of any kind allowed". For turn-based a similar appropriate message capturing the essential rules with a link to the detailed rules. That would go a long way in clarifying the rules as at least in turn based (correspondence chess) different sites/organizations use different rules. It has been obvious from commentary that the assumptions are all over the place. From folks that believe using the analysis board is not allowed, to folks thinking using (game-derived) online databases is cheating to the folks that think engine use is allowed.

2. This is an extension of Dorin's earlier question. I also proposed this in the past.

Right now, chessleagues.com adjusts the scores of WL (and a few more leagues) for closed accounts (regardless of reason for the account closure). It would be nice to have at least some immediate recourse for all team matches played on the site. I would like to see that once the last game of a team match concludes, the software checks for accounts closed due to cheating and automatically adjusts the overall match score. It would be up for debate whether such feature could be implemented retroactively (perhaps one year back). That would automatically take care of all leagues. Below the match score there could be a brief description along the lines of:

"The score was adjusted by x points due to the y accounts being closed.

Is something likes this being incorporated into V3?

Not really, sometimes you need to speak so someone 'immediately' and not through a 'ticket' which in my experience can take up to a week.

Not going to post details here, but sometimes it's really necessary to speak to someone in 'real time'.

Any thoughts on restricting chat to only members with A diamond membership or gold star. This was done on another site and seemed to work  very well, it also made trial members more interested in becoming full members. It just A thought  and I don,t like cencorship but most of the trouble makers seem to be non-members. Maybe this is already being done and thats why I,m asking. Chess.com is the best chess site in the world and I,m glad to be A member. :)

Erik how close have you come to beating Danny Rensch in a game?

Avatar of NDsteve

By chat only I was talking about just phrases. like, hello, good bye, nice game .All pre selected by chess, com staff, I,m watching the National football championship and got distracted. Just for trial members or the first 60 days someone opens an account.

Or build a virtual border between paying and non-paying members and blast propaganda, latest news, weather reports and what not across the border with walls of loudspeakers. Wink

We can ask, but he did NOT write he was about to ANSWER almost anything.

For exemple, he did not answer my question at the post #16:

How many chess addicts does it take to change a light-bulb?
