game review interface change?

Hello @drittman13! Could you please revert the UI of game review to the old version for me as well?

KingLeonidasCY

Hi. What happened to the regular rating? The +7 or 8, etc, for a win. Now, the rating looks different. After a win is more points. How to go back to the standard rating, instead of Blitz rating?

OumuamuaGambit

I was reverted before, thank you, and today you reverted me back to the new interface, which is awful, just plain awful. Please revert me back to the old version, and let me stay there! Why are you messing with it? It's excellent.

Hi all. Today we released the new version of Game Review on web to all members. While I know not everyone loves the change, it's something we are moving forward with as we have found a of positives as well. It can be hard to balance the opinions of 150 million members, but we do our best. I will say that the feedback from the community was instrumental in improving the product since it was initially released as we have implemented many changes.

One new thing that I wanted to let people know about in particular is the "Show Played and Best Move Speech Bubbles" setting (see image below). Turning this setting on will let you see the Played and Best move speech bubbles from Coach on any given move without having to press the Best button (just scroll in the speech bubble area to go between them). This setting was added in direct response to feedback threads like this one.

We also have a Support article here that goes into even more detail about the new Game Review design. https://support.chess.com/en/articles/9363826-game-review-redesign

Best,

Dylan

Best,

Change it back it looks absolutely terrible.

I'm not someone who normally ever complains when sites make UI changes, but my god the new Game Review UI is horrible - it is much harder to use, with 0 benefit. Why on earth would you split what was once all 1 screen on 2 separate screens? Major usability downgrade.

Please revert me back too, I don't like the new interface.

I had the same, plus it didnt show the two blunders i did against hans niemann.

I really hope they don't go down the Duolingo route

FWIW: I greatly preferred the old interface, including the training suggestions. A good option for the devs to think about is a button that allows the user to choose old or new.

Everyone has the new version on web. There aren't any reversions.

Having two versions of code means that there's twice the work to maintain. Long term two versions of code isn't something that can be supported.

Yes, I have the same.. why on earth can't they use someone else instead of me to beta test their idiotic ideas?

Same thing with me; I also hate it and I haven't accepted any beta tests on my account. It sucks.

It's not beta anymore. It's live now and for all users.

It hasn't been in beta for a while. It had been released to around half of the site until yesterday when it was fully released to everyone.

My concern about the new change is possibly unique. I utilize the review feature to add a games to my library, if my game rating is high say 2300 I add it he game to my library under 2300, smothers mate to that group of games etc. by removing the library icon from the review options you eliminate any possibility of adding this to my library. I cannot find any way to add anything to my library in any mode? Review features showing a best line was helpful to a large number of us, also. Comment #46 sent by the staff basically ignored the criticisms of the players, and to paraphrase “we are going to do want what we want to do.” Another way to look at this is “don’t fix what ain’t broke.” Still another point is this, one of the incentives to being a PAYING member was the access to unlimited review (along with better/best lines), along with the removal of annoying advertisements (which has slowly creeped into the home page) by restricting the review function you deincentify any reason to being a PAID member.

Hi all! Sorry for the frustration with the new version of Game Review. I have migrated everybody in this thread who had a negative experience back to the old version of Game Review (let me know if it did not go through for you). We will eventually be moving to a new design, but will be sure to think through all of your feedback. Thanks as always for sharing your opinions. It helps make Chess.com and the community great!

Can you migrate me too? Also, I believe that chess players in general might be very sensitive to chess.com forcing its new (often silly) ideas on them. Just like driving a car or doing maths, this game needs a lot of focus and such minor change might kill both comfort and performance.

Honestly, how would you feel if your car producer's personnel kept on visiting you at random times and made tiny changes in your vehicle. Not too comfortable, eh?

Hartsville54

Yes, as Martin says it is on the Game page but now I first have to go to the review page to see if the game is good enough to add then go to a completely different function. Two step instead one the easy one. Going back to my original point “don’t fix what ain’t Brock.”
