A player must have attained an Elo rating of at least 2500 (although they need not maintain this level to keep the title). In addition, at least two favorable results (called norms) from a total of at least 27 games in tournaments involving other Grandmasters, including some from countries other than the applicant's, are usually required. There are other milestones a player can achieve to get the title, such as winning the Women's World Championship, the World Junior Championship, or the World Senior Championship

it means

rating ===== 2500

won 2 out of 27 games vs grandmasters in tournament.

OR

winning the world championships.

If you have to ask, you wont ever do it.

akshaypratap321

you are saying like that you have got all the title

Scottrf

No I'm saying if you are too lazy or incompetent to use Google you don't have what it takes.

Scottrf

It's the same for a female and male to get a GM title.

Women can get the WGM title, but it's not the same.

I agree with your types of players though. You have to be interested in the game, not obsessed with ratings and unrealistic goals.

i dont play so long yet - but for me its also about the fight vs. a person real life otb. that makes me 100 per cent on the game. online its much different, not so motivated and - yes somehow its different. do others have this effect also?

I've heard this argument before as a reason to dismiss online play and ratings. But, considering the abuse many people get from the opponents on here, I would say a lot of people take online play pretty serious.

I try to take my play on here as serious as possible. Except, maybe when I play blitz. But, even then, I'm not thinking 'whatever'.

The only OTB play I get where I live is so weak I can win with one hand tied behind my back.Laughing

He's on Google right now saying to himself "calling me lazy, hmm. Too competent, hmm. Well we'll see about that. Oh, I've got what it takes, we'll just see. Google, hmm."

Even if in China, there are other search engines available other than Google or they could look on the FIDE website or the Chinese Chess Federation. To say we live in an 'information age' may be true but I feel that many people are simply not information literate anymore (whether it be using an index in a book, looking up a reference in an encyclopedia or using a search engine).
