Speaking about the world chess championship match, from what I recall, I do not think so. Hopefully Anand will not fall into this category.

Capablanca-Lasker 1921. Lasker didnt win any games. He had tried to just give the title to Capa but Capa talked him into actually playing a match. Lasker was like 52 yrs old or so

Kasparov failed to win a single game against Kramnik despite the match being 15 games. Not sure how anybody could fail to mention that.

Apart from the mentioned Marshall, Lasker and Kasparov there's also Janowski.
