Splitting up belgium joining one part with the dutch and one with the french?
Sounds a bit radical to me.
I know there was a newsshow some time ago where there was a joke about Belgium being split up. People assumed it was real, and it turned out to be quite a chaos. I don't know whether it will do any good splitting them up. I suppose the splitting would be more of a deal than the joining.
I live in Eindhoven and it's Belgian enough to me, not that I have anything against Belgiums
Holland and the Netherlands
Oh my god, and I thought we had a problem in Belgium... That must be the reason to get rid of the Dutch in 1830.
Lol
While we're on the Dutch/Belgian controversy can anybody explain how to pronounce those "xx" at the end of some Belgian names -- like Eddie Merxx?
Dozy
lol, have no idea..
by the way, I do know where xxx stands for!
If you tell me what xxx stands for, I'll tell you what bbb stands for
Bastiaan,
Correct!!!!
We (in Flanders) give money, money, money to Wallonië. That is a problem for many people. Not for me because we have to help the poor
But being a part a Netherland?? The answer is no. We don't have the same culture. We speak the same language but thats it.
And what about our kings? We both have one.
Frederick, I'm pretty sure there were no colonies during the middle ages. The growth of trade and exploration were two factors contributing to the end of the middle ages.

you just heve to pronounce them as ks so its the same as merks
Thanks, maartenotten. It's one of those things I often wondered about. (Jim Fixx who was one of the leaders in the American jogging boom in the 1970s was another well known double-x.)
Here's a fact:
In europe in middle ages, criminals, thieves, raperst, murderers had one choise: die or pick up a sword and fight for the king oversea in the collonies.
Most did not return but stayed there. That why we can say that the entire country of America is build by thieves, murderers and raperst from europe..
Australia had a similar auspicious beginning. We began as a British penal colony and, so low were we held in European esteem, that during World War I, a German general actually apologised for sending his troops to fight against the descendents of thieves and murderers.
