It’s quite interesting that I became interested in the interesting world of chess at the profoundly interesting age of 9.

In my case, my grandfather taught me.

My hobby is woodworking since I retired. I made a couple chessboards for grandkids and it kind of lit a fire. I had played in the past, but just a few friends and family, nothing serious, so I went on line figuring there had to be resources and I found chess.com right away and have now played over 400 games (60 minutes rapid) here in the past 4 months. I'm 76 years old, BTW, so I seem to be living proof that old dogs can learn new tricks.

Alright Mike, your words fill me with wisdom.

I starting playing chess when I was seven on chesskid.com. i used to play for fun with my siblings but then my mom found chesskid online. I played there for a coupe of years and then switched over to chess.com. chesskid really helped me get to the intermediate level with its lessons. after I switched to chess.com I got platinum a few years later and kept studying. I also started studying some books (Chess Tactics for The Tournament Player is really good one for players rated 1300-1600).

Back then my father taught me the basic moves of chess, but I have yet to learn en passant at the time. I had the shock of my life when that move first appeared! But ever since then, I have been slowly picking up skills in chess.

I told them that my grandfather taught me to play chess, but that wasn't all. At the beginning I did not give it so much importance and at that time I already knew the platform Chess.com. But some time later, in quarantine, my brother showed me again the platform that now had many more new things and I gave it a chance. And I become who I am now...
A master in chess.

a master is at least about 2000 rating btw. you're a little above 1000 rapid. you're in the beginner-intermediate category

Master in the sense that I have become an expert in chess.

the most popular boys at my first school were playing chess every break. one day I was done writing, drawing and talking so I watched their game and wanted to understand what they were doing. they were very nice and helpful learning me the basics of chess and from that moment I wanted to play as well and challenge them one day :)

Watching nakamura on twitch

Watched the queens gambit on Netflix. At Target one day with my granddaughter looking at toys and saw a cheap little chess/checker set and bought it. Found chess.com and have been playing ever since. Play on 3 different apps, do tons of puzzles. Just a lot of fun.

I have no clue, I just remember liking chess as a little kid and winning my elementary school’s chess tournament. Three times.

And still, I suck so much :)

in my teens my brother and I played for fun and I loved it. Then as I got into my 20s I just stopped playing and didnt play for close to 30 years , Then , I have to admit... The Queens Gambit on Netflix brought back great memories so I started playing again.  I have plaid it every day since then. I play at work  between calls. Often 5 or 6 games a day. Because I am at work I mostly just play Bots. on the weekend I play against my older brother and have a blast. I will never be amazing at it but I am HOOKED and play every day

@Lowish_Monkey invited me to his chess club a few years ago, and I was hooked ever since.
