How many trolls and cheaters are there?

Sort:

Hi,

I am just wondering, what "percentage" of members are trolls (with this I mean higher rated players, sandbagging others) or cheat by using an engine - is there something like an "official number", an estimation, or just... what do you guess?

Although I am just a beginner, I often feel like 10...20% of the opponents can't be real.

And how often do you report someone, who you think is cheating or trolling?

Regards

Nic

Hi. Welcome to the forum.  To talk about cheating, you have to join the Cheating Forum club.

Discussions aren't allowed in the regular forum because they invariably devolve into accusations of other members.

You can report anyone you suspect of cheating or sandbagging by clicking the report button on their profile. The Fair Play team will investigate and take action if necessary.

Hm. OK, I will try to join this "club".

I do actually understand the problem with internet discussions always going i certain directions. That is why I keept the question very general. The background is that I don't want to falsely accuse (report) "too many" players. As said, I feel theres quite a lot... But maybe I am mistaking.

Shocking that I haven't played one cheater in the last four months. Chess.com doesn't care about cheaters.

There are millions of people who can beat you without cheating.

You haven't looked.  I saw one on the first page of your bullet archive and on the second page. Also one on the first page of your blitz games...

I've played hundreds of games here and never run across anyone I felt was cheating.  Maybe I'm just lucky?  Dunno..

I felt like I played many cheaters.  I was stuck at about 400 for a long time, then I got notices that chess.com upped my score due to opponents cheating.  My rating jumped to 800!!  I don't think I'm a true 800 (maybe 500?), but it shows that chess.com suspected that a LOT of cheating was taking place.

I think you closed your old 403 rated account and opened a new one.    On the new one, you must have answered the question about your skill level differently, so it assigned you a different starting rating.  If you actually played rated games against other members, your rating would adjust to the right level.

There are probably not as many people cheating as you think.

i understand you completly. You can raise as many players as you want, there still to many cheaters out there and there is nobody which takes care of it. There is no Cheat Detection System. Its a joke.

If you feel a member may have using disallowed resources, you should just report them directly to staff.
